Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 21:1-4

And he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins.

Whenever Jesus looked up he notices the poor the sick or the needy. Even in a crowded place his eyes go straight to the sick and the needy. We see it in the gospel of John wherein he goes to the pool of Siloam and notices the man who was sick for thirty eight years. It was a crowded place and it was also the festival time and hence there would have been a great gathering but Jesus notices the man only.

Whenever an offering is made or a help is given to the other or charity is done it should affect the donor. Donor should give it from his abundance which in no way disturbs him. The donor does not even realize that he has given something from his wealth. Giving should affect the donor. (She offered her whole livelihood).

வறுமையில் வாடிய ஒரு கைம்பெண்ணும் இரண்டு காசுகளை அதில் போடுவதைக் கண்டார்.

இயேசுவின் கண்கள் ஏழைகளை> கைம்பெண்களை> நோயாளிகளைத்தான் முதலில் காண்கிறார். அவர்களுக்கு உதவுவது மட்டுமல்ல அவரது குறிக்கோள்@ அவர்களிடமிருந்து வாழ்க்கை பாடங்களையும் கற்றுக் கொள்கிறார்@ கற்றுக்கொள்ளவும் சொல்கிறார். ஏந்த ஒரு உதவி பிறருக்குச் செய்தாலும் அது உதவி செய்பவரை பாதிக்க வேண்டும்.

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 23:35-43

“If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.”

Israel was a theocratic community (society). ‘One God; one people’ was the beginning of their history as a society. God revealed through the prophets that he was not at all pleased to appoint kings over them. Because of the insistence of the people and because the neighbouring states had kings over their people; Israel was also allowed to have kings over them.

Kings in Israel were to be ruling the nation as the God of Israel would do. One of the important duties of the kings was to care for the orphans; widows and the strangers. Kings was to give relationship to the people who had lost their relations. Because, this was the work of God. God always gave care and concern to the people who had lost their relationship. Rightly so Jesus was the king of the Jews. As such this king was special; he was not saving himself instead he was saving others at the expense of his own life.

‘நீ ய+தர்களின் அரசனானால் உன்னைக் காப்பாற்றிக் கொள்”

இஸ்ராயேல் மக்கள் கடவுளை அரசராகக் கொண்டு வாழும் சமூகம். கடவுள்தான் அவர்களின் அரசர். அரசர்களும் கடவுளால் நியமிக்கப்பட்டவர்களே (சூழலினால்). அரசர்களின் தலையான பணிகளில் ஒன்று: உறவற்ற மக்களுக்கு உறவு கொடுப்பதே. இயேசு அதைத்தான் செய்தார். தன்னை அழித்து இறை-மனித உறவை வளர்த்தார். மனிதரிடையேயும் உறவை வளர்த்தார். ஆகவேதான் அவர் அரசர்.
