GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 6:7-15
Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

The attitude one should have in prayer is presented in this passage. Jesus distinguishes between the prayer of pagans and the prayer of one who believes in the true God. The God of the pagans has to be woken up from sleep or the God of the pagans need reminders etc. (“Call louder, for he is a god and may be meditating, or may have retired, or may be on a journey. Perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened.” 1 Kg 18:27).
The God of Jesus or the true God is the one who is constantly aware of the need of the people. He is the God who provides always. He does not need reminders and requests. But one has to express his faith in him by praising him and thanking him and expressing that the will of God is more important than the requests and the expectations of the one who prays.

பிற இனத்தவர்கள் பிதற்றுகிறார்கள். மிகுதியான சொற்களை அடுக்கிக்கொண்டே போவதால் தங்கள் வேண்டுதல் கேட்கப்படும் என அவர்கள் நினைக்கிறார்கள் (1 அரசர்கள் 18:27). உண்மை கடவுளை நம்புகிறவர்கள் அப்படி அல்ல. அவர்கள் தங்கள் நம்பிக்கையை வெளிப்படுத்தல் வேண்டும். இறைவனை புகழ்தல்; நன்றி கூறுதல்; கடவுளி சித்தம் நிறைவேற மன்றாடுதல் போன்றவையே நம்பிக்கையின் வெளிப்பாடுகள்.
