06.04.2012 JESUS WITH A MISSION

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 18:1-19:42

In these two chapters we find all what Jesus has thought about himself. When the soldiers come to arrest him he says I am Jesus of Nazareth (His human origin). He is the master of the disciples and he wanted that his disciples be spared. He has spoken openly in the temple in the synagogues and in public places (he is an open minded person). He has spoken the truth and he has come to testify to the truth (His mission).

No one has power over him if it was not granted from above (He is under the control of from above). He let his mother under the care of John (He wants the relationship to continue). He has completed the mission for which he has come down (His determination).

These are some of the facts about Jesus and they are from the mouth of Jesus himself. They speak about his human and divine origins; his attitude to disciples and others; his mission; and completion of the mission. His mission was to do the will of the father for the salvation of humankind. This is completed through his death and followed by his resurrection on the third day.

05.04.2012 GOD-MAN

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 13: 1-15

God had put everything into his power. He had come from the Father and was returning to God. This statement shows the situation of Jesus: his position; his power; his role etc. It clearly showed that he was a God-man; he was a powerful man.

As God-man he had power over everything. He was the master of the situation. This Jesus put a towel around his waist; he became a slave; he washed the feet of the disciples. Jesus displayed a different type of God-man. He did not show his authority, power or status. This he did as an example for others to follow. This is a different type of being a master, leader, and teacher. The dialogue with Peter showed that Jesus gave importance to relationship, belonging.
