21.03.2012 FATHER AND JESUS

Posted under Reflections on March 20th, 2012 by

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 5: 17-30

No one could acknowledge Jesus’ ministry. Jesus believed that he was doing what his father was doing or revealed to him to do. If Jesus’ doing was that of the Father then his breaking the Sabbath law also was the doings of the father. It is this that his opponents could not accept. Their image of God and their idea of God were so different that they could not accept God to be the father of Jesus.

The father has given authority over life to Jesus. Only God had authority over life and if this was given to Jesus then again Jesus becomes the son of God. But Jesus says that his will, his judgement, his doings, and in fact everything of his is from the father.

20.03.2012 JESUS SAW HIM

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 5:1-16

Jesus saw him. Jesus was in a crowded place. He was there on a feast day. There was added crowd in Jerusalem. People were all around. But Jesus saw him. He did not see all the others who were crowding around. There was also a crowd of sick people at the Sheep Gate. “In these lay a large number of ill, blind, lame, and crippled”. In this crowd of sick he saw ‘this man’ who was ill for thirty-eight years.

Jesus spoke only to this man and he healed only this man. It looks as if only this man existed for Jesus. All the others were at the background or they were not visible for Jesus or they were not his concern. The suffering or the needy were the concern for Jesus. He opts for the really needy.
