20.09.11 RELATIONS

Posted under Reflections on September 19th, 2011 by

Then his mother and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. He was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you." He said to them in reply, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it."  (Lk 8:19-21)

Jesus was with a crowd. The crowd was so great that no one could come close to him. This prevented even his mother and brothers to come close to him. The crowd was formed of people who came to him to listen to his preaching. The crowd also came because he healed many. So the crowd was formed of people who belonged to the kingdom.

Kingdom was formed of people. These people were not made of relatives or people who belonged to a group. Kingdom had Jesus as its centre. All the people were turned towards Jesus. They all listened to him. He was communicating something to them. His teachings, his doings and he himself were the main reasons for their coming together.

Jesus announces these people to be his relatives. Kingdom-people are the relatives of Jesus. Jesus does not give importance to the natural relations rather kingdoms relations become the only relations for him. This does not in any way exclude the natural relations. The relations who of natural origin also could become  the relations of the kingdom.

19.09.11 SECRETS

"No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel or sets it under a bed; rather, he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light. Take care, then, how you hear. To anyone who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he seems to have will be taken away." (Lk 8:16-18)

Any one lights a lamp to keep in a central place to give light to all and everywhere. Light is lit only where it is night or when one is in dark. The purpose is to light up the place so that no one goes lost in the dark. So light will not be kept in a vessel or under bed to hid it. Its main purpose is to be in the open to be visible and to make things visible.

Nothing in the world is secret. Nothing is created for secret. Whatever may be the secret it will be made visible one day. Everything will come to light one day.  Through revelation God who is considered to be hidden is constantly made visible. Jesus himself has come into the world to reveal the kingdom and God. There will not be any secrets.

“To anyone who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he seems to have will be taken away." This is a cryptic saying which when expanded would read as follows: “To anyone who has (made more out of what is given him) more will be (given) and from the one who has not (made anything out of what is given to him) even what he seems to have will be (as if ) taken away.
