24.05.11 PEACE

Posted under Reflections on May 24th, 2011 by

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you, 'I am going away and I will come back to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe. I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me, but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me. Get up, let us go. (Jn 14:27-31)

Peace that Jesus gives is different from the peace that this world gives. The peace of Jesus includes many things in it: a state of national tranquility (exemption from the rage and havoc of war); peace between individuals (harmony, concord); security, safety, prosperity, felicity, (because peace and harmony make and keep things safe and prosperous); of the Messiah's peace (the way that leads to salvation); of Christianity (the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, of whatsoever sort that is); the blessed state of devout and upright men after death

Jesus peace is all inclusive. And this peace will lead one to be united with the father. So Jesus goes to the father as the first one. He goes to show the disciples their goal in life is to go to the father. Peace of Jesus will lead one to be united with the father. To be united with the father is not to be cut of from the rest. A man of peace will be constantly in touch with the father and the world.

23.05.11 LOVE

Posted under Reflections on May 24th, 2011 by

Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him." Judas, not the Iscariot, said to him, "Master, (then) what happened that you will reveal yourself to us and not to the world?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; yet the word you hear is not mine but that of the Father who sent me. "I have told you this while I am with you. The Advocate, the holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name — he will teach you everything and remind you of all that (I) told you. (Jn 14:21-26)

Like belief in Jesus which is important to know the father and be united with him so also love of Jesus is important. Anyone who loves Jesus loves the father and in return receives all the revelation. Love for Jesus is also important to be loved by the father. Jesus is the link between the father and the followers of Jesus. Knowledge of Jesus, belief in Jesus and love of Jesus are the criterion to be in relationship with the father.

How do we know that one has love for Jesus? It is only through keeping the words of Jesus. Keeping his words and observing his commandments are again criterion to know that one loves Jesus. When one loves Jesus then he is loved by the father and both the father and the son come and dwell in him. God’s indwelling in a person is only when that person has love for Jesus.

The Holy Spirit will be sent by the father and he will come and teach all that necessary for a life in God. He will not only teach but also will be a constant reminder of the love of Jesus and all what Jesus taught. So the follower need not be preoccupied about how to be in line with Jesus. Holy Spirit will do everything to make the believer follow Jesus.
