Feast of the Sacred Heart, Friday – 24th June 2022 — Gospel: Lk 15,3-7

Love in Service and Availability

The feast of the Sacred Heart brings to mind the image of Christ’s burning love for mankind.  First, the heart is a symbol of the whole person and it represents Christ’s unconditional and eternal love. This love of Christ is given freely, without reservation and measure to all who are transparent in receiving it. Second, the feast reminds of the constant care and concern that God has for each one of us and for the whole universe, a form of an inclusive love. Third, the feast reminds of the intimate connection between the Sacrament of the Eucharist and the devotion to the Sacred Heart. In the Eucharist, Jesus showed how much he loved the whole world. We receive the real, whole and risen Christ in the form of bread and wine. In the same way, in the devotion to the Sacred Heart we profess to relive this encounter with others. The concern that God has for us and for our universe we try to show to anyone who needs us through service and availability.

23.6.2022 — Necessary Foundation

12thWeek in Ord. Time, Thursday – 23rd June 2022 — Gospel: Mt 7,21-29

Necessary Foundation

Today’s Gospel is the concluding part of the great Sermon on the Mount that calls for a solid foundation of faith in our lives. It speaks of two ways of responding to the Word of God: one is hearing and the other is doing. Hearing the Word of God and following it in one’s life takes priority over prophesying in the name of God, casting out demons and doing many deeds of power. However, doing takes precedence over even hearing God’s word. Doing the will of God is nothing but heeding to the words of life given by Jesus and following them in our life sincerely and faithfully. Jesus places himself and his teaching as the revelation of God’s will in the place of the Torah. He surrounded himself to the will of God and became obedient until his death.  Jesus also assures that if we build our lives on the Word of God as foundation, nothing can disturb and distance us from God. Such life would be like the house built on a rock.
