5th Week in Ord. Time, Monday – 07th February 2022 — Gospel: Mark 6,53-56

Great Intercessors

The people of the towns bring their sick to the marketplace so that Jesus could heal them. They not only carry their ill family members or friends to the centre of the town, but they begged out loud, calling on Jesus to work a miracle. In short, they were made great intercessors for those whom they loved and they carried them along by making sacrifices. In this way, they were called to publicly proclaim their faith in the marketplace. Thus, they were zealous in seeking not only the physical, but spiritual and psychological healing of those who were in need. The intercessory role requires that we manifest our faith by bring them and even beg for their salvation.

4th Week in Ord. Time, Saturday – 05th February 2022 — Gospel: Mark 6,30-34

Experiences of Right Perspective

The apostles return from their first missionary excursions. They are excited about what has happened. Jesus realizes that they need to spend some time reflecting on their experiences. Making use of the situation, He tries to put all their experiences into right perspective. But the apostles seem to be focused more on what they did than what God has done through them. Jesus shares His wisdom with them that comes from His relationship with the Father. He wants the apostles to see that it is God who has given them power and authority. And so, as they crossed the sea in the boat, Jesus tried to turn their excitement into enthusiasm. Excitement is an expression of one’s personal feelings and positive reaction to what is happening. Enthusiasm means seeing God within every event and being in touch with God. Standing on the shore Jesus realizes that His mission from the Father is to seek those in need. Thus, Jesus has compassion on those around him and turns to the crowd to minister to their needs and wants.
