GOSPEL READING Mk 6: 45-52
“Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!”

Jesus went up the mountain to pray. He prayed often, and prayed long and he prayed alone. He was doing so much of intercession for the people for whom he was working. He preached so much and did so much of healing and probably he carried them all to the father.
Being afraid is to show disbelief. It is also a sign of lack of love or it is a sign of fear of punishment. To remove the fear Jesus is assuring of his presence. It is like Yahweh revealing his name to Moses and the consequence was redemption from Egyptians. Here Jesus is telling the same name (I AM) to redeem them from fear and natural calamities.
