*Second Week of Advent, Friday — 14th December 2018 — **Gospel: Matthew 11,16-19*
*REPENTANCE REJECTED *
Both John the Baptist and Jesus preached the necessity of repentance in preparation for the coming of the kingdom of heaven. John as an ascetical prophet, while Jesus as the bridegroom of the wedding feast, both preached about the conversion of heart. Unfortunately most of their contemporaries externally rejected John’s preaching and Jesus’ messianic work. Internally they rejected the asceticism of John as madness and the sociability of Jesus as lacking of morals. In a provocative metaphor, Jesus compares their obstinate behaviour to a group of children who refuse to mourn for the funeral or dance for the wedding feast. One thing is certain, they have critical outlook and are critical of any form of life as it demands radical conversion at its base.
திருமுழுக்கு யோவானும் இயேசுவும் இறையரசு வருகைக்கான தயாரிப்பிற்கு மனந்திரும்புதல் மிக இன்றியமையாதது என்பதை போதித்தனர். இறைவாக்கு முனிவராகவும் திருமண விருந்தின் மணமகனைப் போன்றும் மக்களிடையே வாழ்ந்த இவர்கள் உள்ள மனமாற்றத்தையே போதித்தனர். துரதிட்டவசமாக இவர்களுடைய சமகாலத்தவர்கள் யோவானின் போதனையையும் மெசியாவான இயேசுவின் மீட்புச் செயலையும் வெளிப்படையாக நிராகரித்தனர். உட்புறமாக துறவியை பைத்தியக்காரன் என்றும் சமூக அக்கறையோடு செயல்பட்டவரை ஒழுக்கங்கெட்டவரென்றும் ஒதுக்கினர். எனவே, அவர்களுடைய பிடிவாதமான நடத்தையை ஓர் எரிச்சலூட்டுகின்ற உருவகத்தோடு ஒப்பிடுகின்றார். அதாவது, சாவின் இறுதிச்சடங்கிற்கு அழவும் திருமணவிருந்திற்கு நடனமாட அடிம்பிடித்து மறுக்கும் குழந்தைகள் போன்றோர் இவர்கள். ஒன்று மட்டும் நிச்சயம், விமர்சகர்களாகிய இவர்களின் கண்ணோட்டத்தில் எல்லா வாழ்க்கை நிலையிலும் குறைகளை மட்டுமே காண்பதால் அந்தந்த வாழ்க்கை நிலையின் தீவிர மாற்றத்தை கோரும் சவால்களை ஏற்க மறுப்பர்.
