*2nd week in Lent, Monday – 18th March 2019 — Gospel: Lk 6,36-38*

The attitude of the person who judges and condemns others is the very opposite of God’s compassion, mercy and generosity. We know not the motive of other’s actions, and therefore have no right to pass a sweeping condemnation upon them, yet we do them constantly. From our ignorance, we ought to be cautious and merciful in our judgments, and from our own weakness, we should be forgiving to those who have trespassed against us. The model of mercy which Jesus sets before us is God Himself of whom St.Paul says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our afflictions” (2 Cor 1,3-4). God is infinitely rich and powerful and therefore it is appropriate for Him to be merciful and forgiving. But this virtue that characterizes God has been poured into us as we are created in his image and likeness. Therefore, at our birth we become like God and enjoy the abundance, which He pours into our lives, in an absolutely full and overflowing measure. This calls for greater generosity in our relationship with others. Not just material generosity but generosity in love, in understanding, in tolerance and acceptance, in compassion and forgiveness.
மற்றவர்களைத் தீர்ப்பிட்டு கண்டனம் செய்பவர்களின் மனப்பாங்கு இறைவனின் கனிவுக்கும், இரக்கத்திற்கும், தாராள மனப்பான்மைக்கும் முற்றிலும் எதிரானது. மற்றவர்களின் செயல் நோக்கம் நமக்குத் தெரியாது; எனவே அவர்களுக்கு கடுமையான கண்டனத்தை வழங்க நமக்கு உரிமை கிடையாது; இருப்பினும் அவற்றை தொடர்ந்து செய்கின்றோம். நமது அறியாமையை உணர்ந்து எச்சரிக்கையுடனும் இரக்கத்துடனும் நம்முடைய தீர்ப்புகளில் கவனம் செலுத்த வேண்டும். நம்முடைய பலவீனத்தை அறிந்து நமக்கு எதிராகத் தவறு செய்தவர்களை நாம் மன்னிக்க வேண்டும். இயேசு நம் முன்னால் வைத்திருக்கும் இரக்கத்தின் மாதிரி இறைத்தந்தையே. இதையே தூய பவுல், “நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் தந்தை இரக்கம் நிறைந்த கடவுள். அவரே ஆறுதல் அனைத்துக்கும் ஊற்று. அவரே இன்னல்கள் அனைத்திலும் எங்களுக்கு ஆறுதல்” என்று கூறுகின்றார். கடவுள் சக்திவாய்ந்தவர், நிறைவான செல்வாக்குள்ளவர், எனவே அவர் இரக்கமுள்ளவராகவும் மன்னிப்பவராகவும் இருப்பதில் அர்த்தம் உண்டு. நாம் கடவுளின் உருவிலும் சாயலிலும் படைக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதால், அவருடைய இயல்புகளை நம்மிடம் பொழிந்துள்ளார். இதனால், நாம் பிறப்பிலிருந்தே கடவுளைப் போல அவருடைய மிகுந்த மகிழ்ச்சியில் அனுபவித்து மகிழ்கின்றோம். இவ்வருள் நம் வாழ்வில் முழுமையான மற்றும் அளவுக்கு அதிகமான அளவில் ஊற்றப்பட்டிருக்கின்றது. இது நம்முடைய உறவுகளில் அதிக தாராள மனப்பான்மையை வெளிப்படுத்த அழைப்பு விடுக்கின்றது. வெறும் பொருள் அளவில் அல்ல, மாறாக இத்தாரள குணம் அன்பிலும், புரிதலிலும், சகிப்புத்தன்மையிலும், ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளுதலிலும், இரக்கத்திலும் மற்றும் மன்னிப்பிலும் வெளிக்காட்டப்பட வேண்டும்.
