In the Gospel we are presented with two callings: the call to ‘love our neighbour as ourselves’ and the call of Jesus to ‘follow him’ leaving behind all the worldly inordinate attachments. We all know that it is very difficult to love those, whom we dislike. Jesus, knowing this paradox of life and practical difficulty asks us to see our neighbours through the eyes of the creator. This demands shying away of our prejudices and preconceptions, like the Father who forgets of our past and embraces forgiving all our sins. In the personal call given to the three individuals to follow him, Jesus’ teachings offer directions for all those who are seeking to follow in his way. Because they were slaves to worldly things and petty attachments, they postponed their vocation. Following Jesus is a solemn commitment to follow one whom the world does not embrace and it involves one’s whole life. It means breaking with the ways of one’s past and often severing old ties. For Jesus, discipleship means looking ahead with singular dedication to the work for the highest priority, the kingdom of God.
நற்செய்தியில் இரண்டு அழைப்புகள் நமக்கு வழங்கப்படுகின்றன. முதலாவது, நம்மைப் போலவே நம் அயலாரை அன்பு செய்ய வேண்டும் என்ற அழைப்பு. இரண்டாவது, இவ்வுலக பற்றுகளிலிருந்து விடுபட்டு நம்மை அழைக்கும் இயேசுவை பின்பற்றுவதாகும். நாம் விரும்பாதவர்களை நேசிப்பது மிகவும் கடினம் என்பதை நாம் அனைவரும் அறிவோம். இவ்வாழ்வின் முரண்பாட்டையும், நடைமுறை சிக்கல்களையும் அறிந்த இயேசு, நம்முடைய அயலாரை நாம் படைப்பாளரின் கண் கொண்டு பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்று கேட்கிறார். இதில் நம்முடைய கடந்த காலங்களை மறந்து, நம்முடைய எல்லா பாவங்களையும் மன்னித்து நம்மை ஏற்றுக் கொள்கிற இறைத்தந்தையைப் போன்று, நாமும் முற்சார்பு எண்ணங்களையும் தவறான கண்ணோட்டத்தையும் விலக்கி வாழ அழைக்கப்படுகிறோம். மேலும், மூன்று நபரை தனிப்பட்ட முறையில் தம்மைப் பின்பற்ற அழைத்த இயேசுவின் போதனைகள், அவருடைய வழியைப் பின்பற்ற விரும்பும் அனைவருக்கும் வழிகாட்டுதல்களை வழங்குகின்றன. அழைக்கப்பட்டவர்கள் உலக காரியங்களுக்கும் அற்ப பற்றுதல்களுக்கும் அடிமைகளாக இருந்ததால், அவர்கள் தங்களின் அழைப்பை பல்வேறு காரணங்களுக்காக தாமதப்படுத்தினர். இயேசுவைப் பின்தொடர்வது உலகம் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளாத ஒருவரைப் பின்பற்றுவதற்கான ஒரு நிலையான உறுதிப்பாடாகும். இவ்வழைப்பு ஒருவரின் முழு வாழ்க்கையையும் உள்ளடக்கியது. இதன் உட்பொருள் ஒருவரின் கடந்த கால வழிகளை உடைப்பது மற்றும் பழைய உறவுகளைத் துண்டிப்பதாகும். இயேசுவைப் பொறுத்தவரை சீடத்துவம் என்பது மிக உயர்ந்த முன்னுரிமையான இறையரசிற்காக ஒருமைப்பாட்டுடன் எதிர்நோக்கோடு பணி செய்வதாகும்.
