*Sol. of Sts.Peter & Paul, Saturday – 29th June 2019 — Gospel: Mt 16,13-19*

The readings of today emphasize the presence of God in the work of His Church. Two different characters were chosen by Jesus in a very special way for the building of the Church, the mystical body of Christ. St. Peter’s faith and acknowledgement of Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God receives praise from Jesus. His acknowledgement doesn’t come ‘through flesh and blood’ (Mt 16,17) but through a particular revelation from God the Father. Finally, he receives the mandate to take care of His flock and goes to proclaim the Gospel to the whole world, particularly to the Jews. This responsibility is carried out by Peter and his successors down the centuries and the work goes on even now. St. Paul becomes part of the mission of Jesus after his conversion, with a complete change of heart and mind. He received direct revelation from God on his way to Damascus. This turning point directed him to proclaim the Gospel to the Gentiles. In his journey he placed complete trust in the Lord and said, “the Lord stood by me and gave me strength … the Lord will rescue me from every evil threat” (2 Tim 4,17-18). In fact, he experienced the Lord standing by him in all his journeys that he was able to say boldly that he fought a good fight and held his faith unwavering until the end.
இன்றைய வாசகங்கள் திருச்சபையின் பணியில் இறைவன் உடனிருப்பதை வலியுறுத்துகின்றன. இரண்டு வேறுபட்ட நபர்கள் கிறிஸ்துவின் மறையுடலாம் திருச்சபையை கட்டியெழுப்ப இயேசுவால் தனிப்பட்ட முறையில் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டார்கள். பேதுரு தன்னுடைய நம்பிக்கையாலும் மற்றும் இயேசு கிறிஸ்து கடவுளின் மகன் என்று வெளிப்படுத்தியதாலும் இயேசுவிடமிருந்து பாராட்டைப் பெறுகிறார். அவரது வெளிப்பாடு மனிதரிடமிருந்து வெளிப்படுத்தப்பட்டதல்ல, மாறாக விண்ணகத் தந்தையின் தனிப்பட்ட வெளிப்பாடாகும். இறுதியில் தம்முடைய மந்தையை கவனித்துக் கொள்வதற்கான ஆணையைப் பெறுகிறார். மேலும் நற்செய்தியை உலகனைத்திற்கும், குறிப்பாக யூதர்களுக்கு அறிவிக்க அனுப்பப்படுகிறார். பேதுருவும் அவரைப் பின்பற்றியவர்களும் பல நூற்றாண்டுகளாக இந்தப் பொறுப்பை மேற்கொள்கிறார்கள். இப்பொழுதும் இப்பணி தொடர்ந்து நடைபெறுகிறது. தூய பவுல் தன்னுடைய மனமாற்றத்திற்கு பிறகு, அதாவது முழு இதயத்திலும் மனத்திலும் மாற்றமடைந்த பிறகு இயேசுவின் பணியில் பங்கு கொள்கிறார். அவர் தமஸ்கு செல்லும் வழியில் இறைவனின் நேரடி வெளிப்பாட்டை பெறுகிறார். இத்திருப்புமுனை பிறஇனத்தவருக்கு நற்செய்தியை அறிவிக்க அவரை வழிநடத்தியது. இவரது வாழ்க்கைப் பயணத்தில் இறைவன் மீது முழு நம்பிக்கையை கொண்டிருந்தார். இதனை “ஆண்டவர் என் பக்கம் நின்று எனக்கு வலுவூட்டினார் … தீங்கு அனைத்திலிருந்தும் அவர் என்னை விடுவித்து மீட்டருளினார்” என்று கூறுகின்றார். உண்மையில் அவர் தனது எல்லா பயணத்திலும் இறைவன் தன்னுடைன் இருப்பதை அனுபவித்தார். எனவே, அவர் நல்லதொரு போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டேன் என்றும் கடைசி வரை தனது அசையா நம்பிக்கையை காத்துக் கொண்டார் என்றும் அவரால் தைரியமாகக் கூற முடிந்தது.
