16th Week in Ord. Time, Friday – 26th July 2019 — Gospel: Mt 13,18-23
Genuine discipleship is fruit bearing
Jesus’ parable of the sower describes the response of the people of Israel to his message of the kingdom. The images of seeds and harvest express the interrelationship of God’s grace and human choice. Whether those who hear the word, try to understand it deeply and hold on to it in challenging times, is largely a matter of human choice. However the word itself has a divine capacity to grow wherever it is planted. Bearing fruit is the crucial test of genuine discipleship. And there are different degrees of fruit-bearing: some bear a hundredfold, some sixty and some thirty. Mature discipleship does not happen instantly. Discipleship, like fruit-bearing, requires a growing season before there can be a harvest.
இயேசுவின் விதைப்பவர் உவமை இறையாட்சிக்கான இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களின் பதில் மொழியை விவரிக்கின்றன. விதைகள் மற்றும் அறுவடையின் வர்ணனைகள் கடவுளின் அருளுக்கும், மனித தெரிவுக்கும் உள்ள தொடர்பை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றன. இறைவார்த்தையைக் கேட்பவர்கள், அதை ஆழமாகப் புரிந்து கொண்டு சவாலான நேரங்களில் அதைக் கடைபிடிக்கிறார்களா என்பது, பெரும்பாலும் மனித தெரிவின் விருப்பத்தைப் பொருத்ததாகும். இருப்பினும் இவ்வார்த்தை எங்கு நடப்பட்டாலும் அது வளர்ந்து வர ஒரு தெய்வீக திறனைக் தன்னுள்ளே கொண்டுள்ளது. உண்மையான சீடத்துவத்தின் முக்கியமான சோதனை முழுமையான பலனளிப்பதே. மேலும் இறைவார்த்தை பல்வேறு விதமான பலனை, அதாவது சில நூறு மடங்கும், சில அறுபது மடங்கும், மற்றும் சில முப்பது மடங்கும் தருகின்றன என்று அறிகிறோம். சீடத்துவத்தின் முதிர்ச்சி நிலை உடனடியாக நடைபெறாது. நல்ல பலனைத் தரும் சீடத்துவம் அறுவடை செய்வதற்கு முன்பு முழுமையாக வளர்ந்த பருவத்தினை அடைந்திருக்க வேண்டும்.
