17th Sunday in Ordinary Time – 28th July 2019 — Gospel: Lk 10,38-42
God delights in sharing
There must have been something particularly attractive about the way Jesus prayed that made his disciples ask Jesus to teach them to pray. In response Jesus offers them a model prayer, a parable about asking for what they need and an encouragement about how to approach God with confidence when they pray. In all these teachings, Jesus uses terms and images drawn from family life to show that God is a loving Father to his daughters and sons. Jesus’ parable here envisions a situation that is very common in Palestine. People often travelled at night to avoid the heat of the day, so they may get an unexpected visitor at the middle of the night. Since their homes were small, often with a mat serving as a bed for the whole family, it would not be difficult to understand why the friend would not want to get up and disturb the whole family. With this brief parable, Jesus teaches that God will certainly answer the prayers of his children, as there is no inconvenient time for Him, unlike human beings. God delights in answering our prayers and giving us good things. In fact, God gives us the best gift of all, the Holy Spirit, the one in whom we share in God’s very life.
இயேசு செபித்த விதம் சீடர்களை மிகவும் கவர்ந்திருக்க வேண்டும்; எனவே அவர்கள் இயேசுவிடம் சென்று செபிக்க கற்றுத் தரும்படி கேட்டனர். அதற்கு பதிலளிக்கும் விதமாக இயேசு அவர்களுக்கு ஒரு மாதிரி செபத்தையும், ஒரு உவமையின் வழியாக அவர்களின் தேவையை எப்படி கேட்பது என்றும், அவர்கள் செபிக்கும் போது எவ்வாறு கடவுளை நம்பிக்கையுடன் அணுகலாம் என்ற ஊக்கத்தையும் அளிக்கின்றார். குடும்ப வாழ்விலிருந்து தேர்ந்து கொள்ளப்பட்ட சொற்களையும் உருவங்களையும் இந்த போதனைகள் அனைத்திலும் பயன்படுத்துகின்றார் இயேசு. இதனால் கடவுள் தனது மகள்கள் மற்றும் மகன்களுக்கு அன்பான தந்தையாக வரையப்படுகின்றார். இங்கு இயேசு சுட்டிக் காட்டும் உவமை பாலஸ்தீனத்தில் மிகவும் பொதுவான ஒரு சூழ்நிலையை குறிக்கின்றது. பகலின் வெப்பத்தைத் தவிர்ப்பதற்காக மக்கள் பெரும்பாலும் இரவில் பயணம் செய்தனர். எனவே நள்ளிரவில் எதிர்பாராத நேரத்தில் விருந்தாளிகளை அவர்கள் பெற வேண்டிய சூழ்நிலை அமைந்திருந்தது. அவர்களின் வீடுகள் சிறியதாக இருந்ததால், பெரும்பாலும் குடும்பம் முழுவதற்கும் படுக்கையாக ஒரே பாய் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டிருந்தால், நண்பர் ஏன் எழுந்து முழு குடும்பத்தையும் தொந்தரவு செய்ய விரும்பவில்லை என்பதை எளிதாகப் புரிந்து கொள்ளலாம். இந்த சிறிய உவமையில், கடவுள் நிச்சயமாக தனது பிள்ளைகளின் செபங்களுக்கு பதிலளிப்பார் என்று இயேசு கற்பிக்கின்றார். காரணம் மனிதர்களைப் போல கடவுள் நேரத்திற்கு உட்பட்டவரல்ல, அவருக்கு சிரமமான நேரம் என்பதே இல்லை. நம்முடைய செபங்களுக்கு பதிலளிப்பதிலும் நல்ல காரியங்களை நமக்குக் கொடுப்பதிலும் கடவுள் மகிழ்ச்சியடைகின்றார். உண்மையில், தூய ஆவியானவரை நம் அனைவருக்கும் கடவுள் மிகச் சிறந்த கொடையாகக் கொடுக்கிறார்.
