26th Week in Ord. Time, Tuesday – 1st October 2019 — Gospel: Lk 9,51-56
Journey of New Exodus
For Jesus, the time to take possession of Jerusalem, the city of the Messiah, Son of David has arrived. That is why Luke describes specifically of Jesus travelling to Jerusalem a number of times (9,51.53; 13,22.33; 17,11; 18,31; 19,11.28). The phrase ‘set his face’ communicates the sense of fixed determination against a strong temptation to do the opposite. This phrase recalls the statement of the servant figure in Is 50,7: “I have set my face like flint and I know I shall not be put to shame.” So this journey of Jesus is laden with tension and danger as His passion, death, resurrection and ascension lies before him. This journey to Jerusalem is a new exodus, which was anticipated in His transfiguration (9,31), which He takes up as a redemptive path to glorify the Father. A tougher and more demanding Jesus now emerges; a person on the way to a difficult destiny. Aware of what awaits him and envisaging himself as a humble servant, Jesus decisively moves forward. There is no turning back.
மெசியாவின் நகரான எருசலேமைக் கைப்பற்ற தாவீதின் மகனான இயேசுவிற்கு நேரம் வந்துவிட்டது. எனவே தான் இயேசு எருசலேமுக்கு பலமுறை பயணம் செய்ததாக நற்செய்தியாளர் லூக்கா விவரிக்கிறார் (9,51.53; 13,22.33; 17,11; 18,31; 19,11.28). இங்கு “எருசலேமை நோக்கிச் செல்லத் தீர்மானித்து” என்ற சொற்றொடர் வலுவான சோதனையை எதிர்த்து, நிலையான உறுதிப்பாட்டுடன் எதிர்கொள்ளும் உணர்வினைத் தெரிவிக்கின்றது. இந்த சொற்றொடர் “நான் அவமானம் அடையேன்: என் முகத்தைக் கற்பாறை ஆக்கிக் கொண்டேன்” என்ற எசா 50,7ல் அடையாளப்படுத்தப்படும் ஊழியனின் கூற்றை நினைவுபடுத்துகிறது. ஆகவே இந்த பயணம் கலக்கம் மற்றும் ஆபத்தினால் நிறைந்திருக்கிறது. காரணம் அவருடைய பாடுகள், மரணம், உயிர்ப்பு மற்றும் விண்ணேற்றம் ஆகிய நிகழ்வுகள் அவர் கண்முன்னே நிற்பதனால். எருசலேமை நோக்கிய இந்த பயணம் ஒரு புதிய விடுதலைப் பயணமாகும். இதனை அவருடைய தோற்றம் மாறுதல் நிகழ்வு முன்னறிவிக்கின்றது (9,31). தந்தையை மகிமைப்படுத்தும் மீட்பின் பாதையாக இப்பயணத்தை அவர் மேற்கொள்கிறார். கடினமான இலக்கினை மேற்கொள்ள மிகவும் தீவிரமான மற்றும் தீர்க்கமான நபராக இயேசு தன்னை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறார். தமக்கு நடக்க இருப்பதை அறிந்தவராய், தாழ்மையான ஊழியராய், இயேசு துணிவுடன் முன்னேறுகிறார். இப்பயணத்தில் அவர் திரும்பிப் பார்க்கவில்லை.
