29th Week in Ord. Time, Saturday – 26th October 2019 — Gospel: Lk 13,1-9
Mediating Gardener
In the gospel, the Lucan community associates disasters, calamities, sicknesses and death with sin. In order to correct their psyche, Luke emphasizes the urgency of repentance and the need for conversion of heart. The image of the barren fig tree portrays the people of Israel who have not generated any spiritual produce for a long time. In contrast to their non-productivity, the parable becomes a sign of God’s unconditional love and forgiveness. It also expresses God’s patience with his people despite a history of unfruitfulness. The owner’s displeasure expresses God’s evaluation of his people. But the gardener pleaded for the tree, asking the owner to give one more year to carefully nurture the tree so that it will bear fruit. The simple gardener plays a mediating role between the owner and the fig tree and provides the manure and extra care for the tree to start bearing its fruit. Jesus is that mediator, who gives another chance to repent and bear much fruit. He is the one who gives extraordinary care for the fruitless trees.
நற்செய்தியில் லூக்காவினுடைய சமூகத்தினர் பேரழிவுகள், இயற்கை சீற்றங்கள், நோய்கள் மற்றும் மரணம் இவற்றுடன் பாவத்தை காரணியாக இணைக்கின்றனர். அவர்களுடைய மனநிலையை சரி செய்ய, மனந்திரும்புதலின் அவசரத்தையும் மனமாற்றத்தின் அவசியத்தையும் லூக்கா இங்கு வலியுறுத்துகிறார். கனி கொடாத அத்திமரத்தின் உருவகம் எந்தவொரு ஆன்மீக மாற்றத்தையும் நீண்ட காலமாக உருவாக்காத இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களை சித்தரிக்கிறது. அவர்களின் பலனற்ற தன்மைக்கு மாறாக, கடவுளின் நிபந்தனையற்ற அன்பு மற்றும் மன்னிப்பின் அடையாளமாக இவ்வுவமை திகழ்கிறது. பயனற்ற வரலாற்றை அவர்கள் கொண்டிருந்தாலும், கடவுள் தம் மக்களுடன் பொறுமையாக இருப்பதையும் இந்த உவமை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறது. தோட்ட உரிமையாளரின் அதிருப்தி கடவுள் தம் மக்களை மதிப்பீடு செய்வதை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறது. ஆனால், தோட்டக்காரர் மரத்திற்காக உரிமையாளரிடம் கெஞ்சுகின்றார். மரத்தை கவனமாக வளர்ப்பதற்கு உரிமையாளர் இன்னும் ஒரு வருடம் அவகாசம் அளிக்கும்படி கேட்டுக் கொண்டார். எளிமையான தோட்டக்காரர் உரிமையாளருக்கும் அத்தி மரத்திற்கும் இடையே ஒர் இடைநிலையாளராக செயல்படுகிறார். மேலும் அம்மரம் கனியினை கொடுப்பதற்காக உரம் மற்றும் கூடுதல் கவனிப்பை வழங்குகிறார். இயேசுவே அந்த இடைநிலையாளர். நாம் மனந்திரும்பவும் மற்றும் மிகுந்த பலனைத் தரவும் அவர் மீண்டும் ஒரு வாய்ப்பைக் கொடுக்கிறார். பலனற்ற மரங்களுக்கு அதிகமான கவனிப்பை தருபவர் அவர் ஒருவரே.
