06.11.2019 — Assess the cost

31st Week in Ord. Time, Wednesday – 06th November 2019 — Gospel: Lk 14,25-33

Assess the cost

Discipleship is a relationship with Jesus and a commitment to him. Firstly, it means carrying the cross and following him. No earthly attachment, neither family nor possessions, can deter one’s pursuit of God’s kingdom. Pursuing discipleship means being attached to Jesus, not to possessions.  Jesus must be the focus, the passion, and the goal of all who seek him. Secondly, a decision for discipleship requires that we first assess the costs. As when considering whether or not to build a watchtower or to go into battle, one must assess one’s resources. Likewise with discipleship: Jesus says that one must assess whether one is ready to take on the personal commitment and sacrifice required to follow Jesus. 3
