04.05.2021 — Prince of Peace

Fifth Week in Easter Time, Tuesday – 4th May 2021 — Gospel: Jn 14,27-31

Prince of Peace

The effect of the Spirit’s work within believers is a profound sense of peace. This peace is the farewell gift of Jesus to His disciples. He repeats it with the emphatic “My”, and speaks of it as an actual possession which He imparts to them. “Peace on earth” was the angels’ message when they announced His birth. “Peace to you” was His own greeting when He returned victorious from the grave. These expressions highlight that Christ is the source of peace and brings to fulfillment Isaiah’s prophecy that He is the Prince of peace (Is 9,6). Paul too affirms that “Jesus is our peace” (Eph 2,14). In the sense, Jesus is the mediator of reconciliation between the two races: Jew and gentile. Here peace ends the hostility and forges a new relationship of unity in Christ.  Christ alone can mend the broken, hostile relationship between the enemies. Living in Christ one enjoys the inner peace, serenity and also builds unity among his brethren.
