GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 10:1-7

Jesus called the twelve from his followers. He had many followers. But he chose only twelve. He called only those who were with him for some time. He did not pick the one who just appeared on that day. The chosen apostles were with Jesus for some time and they have experienced him. This acquaintance and experience was essential to be chosen as an apostle.

He gave them power over unclean spirits and sicknesses and evil itself. The primary work of the apostles was to remove evil from among creation. Evil is in the world and its influence is destroying the creation. Through their ministry they have to announce the nearness of the arrival of the kingdom of God.

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 9:32-38

Jesus was preaching the kingdom and doing the works of the kingdom. This was seen different by Pharisees and the crowd. Pharisees always see him negatively. They were not able to see the good that was done. They have negative perception of everything. For the even the good was done by the demon. How can good come out of evil?

The people saw in Jesus a prophet and a man of God. They see the good done by Jesus. They admired him at this. Jesus also saw in the people their simplicity and innocence. Because this they were also troubled by the others. Jesus compared them to be sheep without a shepherd. They had no leader for them and they were cheated by the other leaders.
