11.04.2016 CROWD LOOKS FOR JESUS

Posted under Reflections on April 7th, 2016 by

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 6:22-29

The crowd looked for Jesus. The crowd had seen Jesus performing miracles and they had listened to him and so they went after him. Jesus realized that the crowd was not interested in following him or believing in him as the one sent by the Father. They went to him because their material needs were satisfied by him.

Jesus was trying to convince them that the material satisfactions were only signs. They were not end in themselves. They were pointing out to something different or something immaterial. The material world itself is a sign and everything that happens in the world is a sign for a believer; a sign for the other world, a sign of God presence and God’s activities and the response of man is only to believe.

10.04.2016 CHANGE OF OCCUPATION

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 21:1-19

Death of Jesus brought an end to the activities of Jesus and his followers (at least temporarily), for the disciples went back to continue their regular life. To an extent they went back to their earlier life. That was the only thing they knew. They were fisher men and they went back to fishing. Nearly eight of them including Simon were there in the boat.

Jesus went after them. He went to the places of the disciples again. It was almost a second calling. This was after the resurrection. The second calling made them realize that it was the same Jesus who called them earlier. Each one of the post resurrection appearances was a calling (recalling, a re-calling). He called them to be shepherds and not fishermen. Interesting. There was a change of occupation. Fishermen have to become shepherds.
