07.08.2015 LIFE IS A GIFT

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 16:24-28

Life is the first gift and we could very well say that the only gift that God has given to man (because through life we receive or recognize the other gifts). Only a man with life can ever imagine of the other gifts and enjoy other gifts. No one will be able to imagine what a person would if he had no life (he would not be a person). Everything is empty and useless without life.

There is nothing in this world in exchange for life. Even the whole world would be of no use in exchange for life. The author of the gospel tells indirectly that that there is one thing that would stand up against life and that could go in exchange for life. Jesus is the only thing (person) that should go in exchange for life.

GOSPEL READING: MARK 9: 2-10

The three disciples heard the voice of God the Father. The disciples were used to the voice of Jesus and all what Jesus had said. Also the thousands of followers have heard the voice of Jesus. He preached to them many things. But the main theme of Jesus preaching was to reveal God the Father. In every parable and in every story Jesus revealed God the Father.

Here in this passage we hear God the Father speaking and He reveals the son. Father says that Jesus is his beloved son. God the father not only reveals the son but also the relationship that exist between them (father – son) and the quality of their relationship (beloved). God the Father gives only one command to the listeners (the disciples) and that is to listen to him. To listen to someone one has to be close to him (physically); one has to be attentive (not distracted with other things); one has to be open etc.
