08.10.2014 PRAYER

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 11:1-4

Prayer was not a precondition for discipleship. If it was so then Jesus would have taught them first as he called them. Only when they see Jesus praying they are compelled by his model to pray. They request him to teach. (However they would have prayed the prayers like a Jew).

Jesus’ prayer puts the relationship with god as the primary thing. Jesus asked his disciples to address god as Father. This was the experience of Jesus right from the beginning particularly at the Baptism where in God said you are my beloved son etc. This relationship will place all praise and petition in the right perspective.

07.10.2014 SISTERS

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 10:38-42

Two sisters, one is busy with preparing food for the family and friend while the other is spending time with the friend. Preparing food is as important as spending time with the friend. Probably Martha would also like to spend time with Jesus as Mary is doing.

I wonder why Jesus says that Mary has chosen the better part since both are equally important. Does Jesus indirectly say that ‘man does not live on bread alone but from the word of God implying that he was discussing with her the word of God? For Jesus, every visit or every meeting is opportunity to communicate God and word of God.
