Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 13:21-33,36-38

Jesus is at table with his disciples. He is talking to them about all that is going to take place. He is overwhelmed with feelings. Since they are his disciples he is talking to them about friends and friendship. He is also dealing with them how friendship should be lived.

At this juncture he is also telling them the evils of friendship. The two great evils against friendship are betrayal and denial. There is only a hair-line difference between friendship and betrayal. Betrayer will not be recognized easily (Some thought that since Judas kept the money bag, Jesus had told him, “Buy what we need for the feast,” or to give something to the poor). And so also the one who denies. Repentance will bridge.

நட்பின் பிண்ணனியில் உணவு பகிரப்படுகிறது. ஆனால் நட்புக்கும் காட்டிக்கொடுப்பவனுக்கும் இடைப்பட்ட தூரம் குறைவுதான். அதேபோல்தான் மறுதலிப்பவனுக்கும். யார் காட்டிக்கொடுப்பான் யார் மறுதலிப்பான் என்று புரிதல் கடிணம். ஆனால் நட்பு காட்டிக்கொடுத்தல் மறுதலித்தல் இவைகளிடையே ஒரு உறவு உண்டு.

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 12:1-11

Mary loved Jesus so much because she has received from him the forgiveness and the love that she could get only from God. In front of God nothing was worthwhile for her. Everything else in the world was nothing for her in front of the love of Jesus and she had to tell it openly; and she did it. This was her attitude.

Judas was looking at the cost of things and the monetary value of things only. Poor and even serving the poor for Judas was in monetary terms only. Jesus was looking at resurrection perspective and hence there was no poor for him (for after resurrection there is no distinction as poor and rich or any other). Even on the earth Jesus was looking at persons, individuals and not at their status. He always looked at them with resurrection perspective.

மரியா இயேசுவிடம் இறை அன்பை> இறை மன்னிப்பை உணர்ந்தாள். உலகிலுள்ள எல்லாமே விலைஉயர்ந்த பொருள்கள்கூட அவளுக்கு மதிப்பற்றவைகள்தான். ஏழைகளையும் அவர்களுக்குச் செய்கின்ற பணியையும்கூட பணக்கண்ணோட்டத்தில்தான் கண்டான். இயேசு உயிர்ப்பு கண்ணோட்டத்தில் பார்க்கிறார் (வேறுபாடுகள் கிடையாது).
