31.01.2014 KINGDOM OF GOD

GOSPEL READING Mk: 4:26-34

Jesus gives parables about the kingdom. The first parable gives one of the important qualities of the kingdom: kingdom works on its own. Kingdom does not depend on human interventions and assistance. Human availability and openness are needed but for the kingdom to make itself realized in the world it does not need the help of man. Man cannot boast of having established the kingdom.

The second quality of the kingdom is that it appears to be small (insignificant) in its beginning but has greater influence and usefulness to humanity. Man should not think about the kingdom of God as he thinks about worldly/human institutions. These institutions have to impress people and show greater success rates etc to be of use. But the kingdom of God is totally of a different nature.

30.01.2014 WORD OF GOD

GOSPEL READING: MARK 4:21-25

Those who are good have the obligation to do good. God expects a grateful return for his gifts and useful improvement of his gifts in us. The apostles received the gift of the Gospel not for themselves but for the good of the others. Like the candle they have to communicate to the others. Gifts and graces are given not for the self satisfaction and glory but for the service of the others.

Those who hear the word of God should mark the word of God and should make a good use of the word of God. Man should give a fair hearing to the word of God (Take care what you hear). What we hear should not go as words and sounds in the air rather we should consider the word of God. What we hear should be effective in our lives and become a message for the others.
