11.01.2014 JESUS AND JOHN

GOSPEL READING Jn 3: 22-30
John justifies the action of Jesus and at the same time reveals his own identity. John says that he is only a forerunner. He has come to prepare the way for him. But both Jesus and John are doing the same activity. Both of them are baptizing. Since the activities are similar people are not able to distinguish one from the other. The question is: are they both messiahs?
Jesus is the Messiah and hence John says that he is not the one. There could be only one messiah and hence the other is not and he himself is only a precursor. John makes the distinction clear. One is a friend and the other is the bridegroom. As friends they may look equal but one among the two is the bridegroom. This brings joy and happiness.

10.01.2014 CLEAN

GOSPEL READING Lk 5: 12-16

The attitude of the man with full of leprosy is quite interesting. The man looks out for Jesus (he has heard about him); he humbles himself (he fell prostrate); he desired to be cleansed (he pleaded with him); he firmly believed in Jesus ability to cure him; and he prayed to him to be healed. These are also the stages through which the man who wants to be healed goes through.

Jesus’ response also has few stages. Jesus immediately stretched out his hand (he is ever ready to assist); he touched him (his personal attention to any individual); he willed to help (Jesus’ will to heal the humanity); Jesus wished that this event be kept personal and not made public but asked him to follow the instruction of Moses (the healing id something to do with religion; divine); and then Jesus himself went to pray. This is the way any healed should behave.
