Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 16: 12-15

Jesus is getting ready to go and he has prepared the disciples sufficiently and he has also assured them of the imminent arrival of the Holy Spirit and his immanent presence among the disciples to strengthen them. Jesus is in control of the whole situation. Even though he seems to be at the end of his life yet he is in control and everything happens as he wishes.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and he will guide the disciples to the Truth (Jesus Christ; “I am the Truth”). Whatever the Spirit speaks is about Jesus and what he has heard from Jesus; all his activities are to give glory to Jesus. The Spirit is totally Jesus oriented and Jesus centred. Everything happens as the Father has declared.

இயேசுவுக்கு என்ன நடக்கிறது என்பது தெரியும். எல்லாமே அவரது விருப்பப்படி நடக்கிறது. எல்லா நிகழ்வுகளும் அவருடை திட்டப்படி நடந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறது. வரவிருக்கும் தூய ஆவியானவர் சீடர்களை உண்மைக்கு இட்டுச்செல்வார் (இயேசுவிடம்). அவர் வருவது நிச்சயம் வந்தபின் அவர் நிரந்தரமாய் சீடர்களோடு தங்குவார். அவருடைய பேச்சும் செயல்களும் இயேசுவைப் பற்றித்தான் இருக்கும்.

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 16:5-11

Jesus’ going away from this world has brought grief to the disciples. This is the natural happening. He himself has said “I will strike the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered”. But his going away is not the end. Natural way of thinking is to believe that the end is at hand. But Jesus never thinks that way nor does he teach his disciples to think that way.

He thinks and teaches a new way. He teaches the disciples to think in the resurrection perspective (to think creatively, to think positively etc). He says: But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. His going is not a lose but a gain. Yes the Holy Spirit will be given to the disciples.

இயேசு இவ்வுலகை விட்டு செல்வதை குறித்து சீடர்கள் துயரத்தில் மூழ்கியுள்ளார்கள். இயேசு அவர்களிடம் சொல்லுகின்ற உண்மை இதுவே: நான் போவதால் நீங்கள் பயனடைவீர்கள். இயேசு இவ்வுலகைவிட்டுச் செல்லுதல் அவர்களுக்கு நன்மை பயக்ககூடியது. அவர் செல்வதால் துணையாளர் வருவார் என்பதும் அது அவர்களுக்கு நன்மைபயக்கும் என்பதும் ஒரு புதிய சிந்தனை.
