26.01.2012 MISSION

GOSPEL  READING:  LUKE 10:1-9

Jesus sends seventy disciples to prepare the way for his mission. His mission is great and he needed many more disciples. Labourers are not sufficient for the work. Lot of work is undone because of the lack of workers. It is in this context, his directions to the disciples have meaning.

By telling them not to carry money or bag for the journey etc is to remind them that they have to be in a hurry to go about with the mission. He tells them not to greet anyone on the way and by so saying he tells them to be in a hurry and there is no time to be greeting people and wishing them well. There is no time to be going around from house to house in stead the message and mission are more important.

25.01.2012 GO AND PREACH

Posted under Reflections on January 24th, 2012 by

GOSPEL  READING:  MARK 16:15-18

Go and proclaim the good news is the command given by Jesus to his disciples. This command of Jesus is the basis for evangelization. Content of the good news is the person of Jesus himself. Jesus when he began to proclaim the good news to the poor he preached about the kingdom of God. His preaching was about God and the presence of God in the world.

Preaching of the good news will have opposition. But these will have no power over the disciples. Disciples will not be overcome by evil. The signs of the believers are that they will not be overcome by evil. They will continue to do good. Faith and goodness will go together.
