GOSPEL  READING  MARK 1:14-20

Jesus calls the disciples to be his followers. He calls them from their own situations. He does not pick them up from or choose them from a qualified crowd or the elite of the society. He calls his disciples from a working class community. He calls them from the periphery of the society. They at the sea shore which was the end of the world. After the shore there was only water and there was nothing after that.

He chose them to be his disciples and followers. They had to follow him. At the moment of his calling he did not give them any principles and rules to follow him. He just wanted them to come after him. They had to follow the person Jesus. Their work was to make disciples for Jesus because he said to them “I will make you fishers of men”.

21.01.2012 HE WAS OUT OF HIS MIND

GOSPEL  READING  MARK 3:20-21

Jesus continued his ministry among people. People gathered around him in big number and they also kept him busy. He was so busy that he could not even have his meal. He and his disciples were over worked. This only points out the need for work of God. This also indicates that the work of the evil has taken over the world so much that there was the need for continued work.

His relatives and friends thought that he was out of his mind. It could have been because of the amount work done by him or the way he was going about doing which disturbed the normal regular functioning. Probably the people (could have been the Pharisees) began to complain against him that the relatives felt the need to control him.
