GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 9: 9-13
Go and learn the meaning of the words, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”

Jesus calls followers from where they are. Jesus does not people from good places, or from good positions etc. He chooses them as they are. He does not look for positions and status. For Jesus the person is more important than his back ground. Choice is by Jesus only.
Jesus chooses from tax collectors and sinners. Probably the Pharisees expected to be chosen. If they were chosen he could not have formed them. They were very sure of things and they knew everything and hence they would not have let Jesus form them. But Jesus had made an option.

~பலியை அல்ல> இரக்கத்தையே விரும்புகிறேன்| என்பதன் கருத்தை நீங்கள் போய்க் கற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள்@ ஏனெனில் நேர்மையாளரை அல்ல> பாவிகளையே அழைக்க வந்தேன்” என்றார்.

இயேசு தன் சீடர்களை தேர்வு செய்யும் போது எந்த கண்ணோட்டத்தோடும் செயல்படவில்லை. அவர் விரும்பியவரைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார் தேர்வு அவருடையது. அது எந்த ஒரு பிண்ணனியிலும் எந்த ஒரு தாக்கத்தினாலும் எடுக்கப்பட்ட முடிவு அல்ல. ஏழைகள்> பாவிகள் தான் அவருடைய தேர்வுக்கு உட்பட்டவர்கள்.
