*First Week of Advent, Thursday — 6th December 2018 — **Gospel: Matthew 7,21.24-27 *
*Making a right choice *
Jesus concludes the Sermon on the Mount with a series of exhortations to put his teachings into practice. His strong insistence on ‘doing’ is repeated in Mt 12,50; 21,43; 28,20. The final contrast presents two ways of life that require a choice. This option of the two ways is rooted in Deuteronomy. Here God offers Israel a choice between a blessing and a curse, between life and death, between prosperity and adversity (Deut 11,26-28; 30,15-18). In the same manner, Jesus here contrasts between the one who builds his house on rock and the one who builds on sand. The choice to withstand the storms and floods or be collapsed depends on what we build our houses with. இயேசு தம் மலைப்பொழிவின் நிறைவுப் பகுதியில் எண்ணற்ற அறிவுரைகளை கூறி அவரின் போதனையை நடைமுறைப்படுத்த அழைக்கின்றார். அதில் இரண்டு வேறுபாடுகளுக்கு மத்தியில் சிறப்பான ஒன்றை தேர்வு செய்தல் எப்படி என்று விளக்குகின்றார். இதனுடைய பின்புலத்தை இணைச்சட்ட நூலில் நாம் காணலாம். கடவுள் இஸ்ராயேல் மக்களை தம் ஆசிருக்கும் சாபத்திற்கும், வாழ்வுக்கும் சாவிற்கும், வளமைக்கும் துன்பத்திற்கும் இடையே தெரிவு செய்ய அழைப்பது போன்றதாகும். இதே போன்று இயேசு உறுதியான அல்லது நிலைகுலையும் வீட்டை கட்ட தேவையான அடித்தளம் என்ன என்பதை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றார். இறுதியில் வீடு கட்டுபவரின் தனிப்பட்ட தீர்மானம் செயல்பாட்டையும் பொருத்தே அதன் உறுதித்தன்மை அமைகிறது.
