*Immaculate Conception, Saturday — 8th December 2018 — Gospel: Luke 1,26-38 *
*Mary, the Humble Virgin*
The conception of Jesus is distinct and unlike anything before in salvation history. The birth narrative emphasizes twice in 1,27 that Mary is a virgin. Further she herself confirms her virginity (1,34) and her lack of sexual experience. God’s intervention in her life was not the result of anything she could have anticipated. Mary’s virginal conception was made possible by her free acceptance of the role as “mother of the Messiah”. But her call as a virgin and her human cooperation with the divine unfolds to her and to everyone a special mission in salvation history.
As Gabriel greets Mary, he declares her to be the one who has been favoured with the unmerited grace of God. Her son will be the Messiah, the one who will receive the throne of his ancestor, King David, and his reign will be everlasting, fulfilling the promises of the ancient covenant (1,32-33). He will also be the Son of God, conceived through the overshadowing power of God’s spirit. “The Most High”, “the Son of God”, and “the Holy Spirit”, described as the Trinity in later interpretation, are present here at this climactic moment of amazing grace. Mary responds with perfect humility, for she is a humble woman from a small village. Mary stands in the middle of this drama as God’s listening, humble and willing servant. She receives the word of God in her heart, and consents to conceive the Son of God in her womb. Mary’s assent is totally free and not made without considering its costly consequences, but with the sole purpose of salvation for the humankind.
மீட்பின் வரலாற்றில் இயேசுவின் கருவுருவாக்கம் மிகவும் வித்தியாசப்பட்டதுஇ இதுவரை நடைபெறாத நிகழ்வாகும். மரியாள் கன்னி என்பதை வர்ணனையாளரும் மரியாளும் இருமுறை வலியுறுத்துகின்றனர். கடவுளின் இவ்வழைப்பை மரியாள் சற்றும் எதிர்பார்த்திருக்கவில்லை. மரியாள் மெசியாவின் தாயாக மாற தன்னையே அர்ப்பணித்ததின் விளைவு அவள் கன்னியாக கருத்தாங்கிடும் கதாநாயகியானாள். அவளின் கன்னித்தன்மையும் அர்ப்பணமும் மீட்பு வரலாற்றில் உள்ள சிறப்பான பணியை அவருக்கும் அவளைச் சார்ந்த நமக்கும் வெளிப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறது. இதனால் வானதூதர் மரியாளிடம் ஆண்டவரின் அருளை நிறைவாக பெற்றவராக வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றார். அவரின் மைந்தனான மெசியா தாவீதின் அரியணையை பெறுவார் அவரது ஆட்சி என்றும் நிலைத்திருக்கும்இ உடன்படிக்கையை நிறைவாக்குவார்; என்ற மாட்சியை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றார். இவரே தூய ஆவியின் வல்லமையினால் உருவாகும் இறைமகன். இவரின் உருவாக்கத்தில் மூவொரு இறைவனின் வல்லமையுள்ள அருள் ஒன்றித்திருக்கின்றது. புதுமையான இந்நாடகத்தில் மைய கதாபாத்திரமான மரியாள் கடவுளின் அழைப்பிற்கு விருப்பத்தோடும் தாழ்ச்சியோடும் பதில்; அளிக்கின்றாள். இறையுருவை கருவிலும் இறைவார்த்தையை இதயத்திலும் ஏற்றுக் கொண்ட மரியாள் மானிடரின் மீட்பை முன்னிறுத்தி மற்ற விளைவுகளை பொருட்படுத்தாது சுதந்திரமாய் தன் இசைவை வெளிப்படுத்தினாள்.
