*Baptism of the Lord, Sunday – 13th January 2019 — Gospel: Luke 3,15-16.21-22*
*Jesus’ solidarity with Humanity *
Jesus’ choice to receive the baptism of John expresses his solidarity with sinful and repentant humanity. Luke neither specifies the place, nor describes the baptism of Jesus but speaks of it as a fact that has already taken place (3,21). He wishes to focus on the heavenly testimony about Jesus by stating what happens immediately afterwards, i.e., while Jesus is praying. At first, the opening of heaven expresses a dramatic revelation of God into the world of humanity to accommodate everyone. And then the descent of the Holy Spirit gives expression to its transforming presence. The spirit moves Jesus to approach the sinners with gentleness and sweetness like the dove. Finally, the voice of God confirms that Jesus is his beloved Son in whom he delights. God declares in Jesus his “servant” the salvation for all the beloveds’ who follow Jesus. John the Baptist looked forward to this event in Jesus. Through baptism, Jesus’ mission is rooted in his identity as Son of God, and he carried it out being anointed by the Holy Spirit.
பாவிகளோடும் மனமாற்றம் அடைந்த மனுக்குலத்தோடும் ஐக்கியப்படுத்திட இயேசு யோவானின் திருமுழுக்கைப் பெற தேர்ந்து கொண்டார். நற்செய்தியாளர் லூக்கா அவர் பெற்ற திருமுழுக்கின் விவரத்தையும் நடைபெற்ற இடத்தையும் குறிப்பிடாமல், அது ஏற்கனவே நடந்தேறிய ஒர் உண்மைச் சம்பவம் என வர்ணிக்கின்றார். இயேசுவின் விண்ணக சாட்சியத்தின் மீது உடனடி கவனம் செலுத்த விரும்பியதால் உடனே என்ன நடந்தது என்று வெளிப்படுத்த இயேசு செபித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் போது என்று குறிப்பிடுகிறார். முதலில் வானம் திறக்கப்படும் என்ற அடையாளம் இவ்வுலகில் உள்ள மனித குலம் அனைவரும் கடவுளின் மீட்பில் பங்குபெறுவர் என்ற வியத்தகு வெளிப்பாட்டைச் சுட்டிக் காட்டுகிறது. பின்னர் தூய ஆவி இறங்கி வரும் அடையாளம் மாற்றத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தும் உடனிருப்பை குறித்துக் காட்டுகிறது. இதனால் பாவிகளிடம் மென்மையோடும் மேன்மையோடும் புறாவின் தன்மைகளோடு இயேசு நடந்து கொள்ள தூய ஆவியாரால் தூண்டப் பெற்றார். இறுதியாக, இறைவனின் குரல் “இவரே என் அன்பார்ந்த மகன், இவரில் நான் பூரிப்படைகின்றேன்” என்று இயேசுவை மகிமைப்படுத்தியது. இதன் வழியாக இயேசுவைப் பின்பற்றும் அனைத்து அன்பர்களுக்கும் கடவுளின் மீட்பை வழங்கும் ஊழியனாக அவர் மைந்தனை வெளிப்படுத்தினார். திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் இயேசுவின் இந்நிகழ்வைக் காண எதிர்பார்த்திருந்தார். திருமுழுக்கின் மூலம், இயேசுவின் பணி இறைமகன் என்ற தனித்துவத்தில் வேரூன்றி, தூய ஆவியானவரின் அர்ச்சிப்பினால் தொடர்ந்து செயலாற்றலானார்.
