*2nd Week in Ord. Time, Thursday – 24th January 2019 — Gospel: Mark 3,7-12*
*Universalism in His mission*
In contrast to the religious and political authorities who oppose Jesus and his ministry, the great assemblies consisting of the poor from all walks of life from all over Palestine accept Jesus and gather around him. The descriptive account affirms their presence in large numbers with various actions: ‘great multitude followed’, ‘great numbers came’, ‘crowds crushed’, ‘cured many’, ‘all diseased pressed upon to touch’, ‘unclean spirits fell down before and shouted’, and ‘sternly ordered them’. These actions exhibit Jesus’ universal nature for countless number. Mark, the evangelist, mentions the seven geographical areas from which they come, which symbolize the universal aspect of Jesus’ mission. His universalism is heightened with multitudes consisting of Jewish people from Galilee, Judea and Jerusalem, as well as some Gentiles from the regions of Jorden River and Northern coast of Mediterranean. His universalism is highlighted also in the different categories of people who were healed, including those with the unclean spirits. The narrative commonly states a synthesized theme that Jesus is at home with them all, and heals them of all their maladies.
இயேசுவையும் அவருடைய பணியையும் எதிர்க்கும் மத மற்றும் அரசியல் அதிகாரிகளுக்கு மத்தியில் பாலஸ்தீனத்தைச் சார்ந்த பெரும்பான்மை ஏழைகள் அவரை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டனர். பெருந்திரளான மக்கள் பலர் பல்வேறு செயல்களோடு திரண்டு வந்ததை நற்செய்தியாளர் இப்பகுதியில் வர்ணித்துள்ளார். ‘பெருந்திரளானோர் அவரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தனர், பெருந்திரளானோர் அவருடைய செயலினால் அவரிடம் வந்தனர், மக்கள் கூட்டம் அவரை நெருங்கியது, பலர் குணமாயினர், நோயுற்றோர் அனைவரும் தொடவிரும்பி காலில் விழுந்தனர், தீய ஆவிகளும் விழுந்து கத்தியது’ என்ற சொற்றொடர்கள் இதை விளக்குகின்றன. இச்செயல்கள் இயேசுவின் பொதுத்தன்மையை பல்வேறு காரணங்களோடு வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றன. மேலும், மாற்கு நற்செய்தியாளர் ஏழு புவியியல் பகுதிகளை இங்கு குறிப்பிட்டு இயேசுவின் பணியில் உலகளாவிய தன்மையை அடையாளப்படுத்துகிறார். அவருடைய உலகளாவிய தன்மை யூதமக்களையும் பிறஇனத்தவரையும் உள்ளடக்கியதில் அதிகரித்துள்ளது. மேலும் பல்வேறு தரப்பட்ட நோயாளிகள் குணம் பெற்றதிலிருந்து குறிப்பாக அசுத்த ஆவிகள் விழுந்து பணிந்ததில் அவரின் பொதுத்தன்மை மேலோங்கி உள்ளது. பொதுவாக இப்பகுதியில் இயேசு எல்லா மக்களோடும் உறவாடி அவர்களுக்கு சுகமளிக்கிறார் என்று அறிகிறோம்.
