*2nd Week in Ord. Time, Saturday – 26th January 2019 — Gospel: John 8,31-36*
*Jesus frees from Slavery *
Jesus speaks to the Jews reminding them of their past that they were slaves under various kingdoms. The Jews claim that they have never been in bondage to any one as they are the descendants of Abraham. They continue to deny the fact of having been slaves in Egypt and Babylon and being under the Roman rule. It exposes their arrogance and pride. Jesus refutes their claim and talks to them about spiritual slavery, namely slavery to sin. Further, Jesus strongly asserts his role as Saviour who would free them from their sinfulness as God did in the First Testament. The freedom that Jesus calls for helps us live our lives to its fullness. To be free in the Lord is to discern the will of God and surrender our lives to God’s ways.
யூதர்கள் கடந்த காலத்தில் பல்வேறு அரசுகளின் கீழ் அடிமைகளாக இருந்ததை இயேசு இங்கு நினைவுபடுத்திப் பேசுகின்றார். அவர்கள் ஆபிரகாமின் சந்ததியினராய் இருந்தபடியினால் எவருக்கும் அடிமைகளாக இருந்ததில்லை என்று எப்பொழுதும் வாதாடி வந்தனர். எகிப்திலும் பாபிலோனிலும் அடிமைகளாக இருந்ததையும் உரோமை ஆட்சிக்கு உட்பட்டிருந்ததையும் அவர்கள் மறுத்தே வந்தனர். இது அவர்களின் இறுமாப்பையும் கர்வத்தையும் அம்பலப்படுத்துகிறது. இயேசு அவர்களுடைய கூற்றை மறுத்து, அவர்கள் ஆன்மீக ரீதியாக அதாவது பாவத்திற்கு அடிமையாயிருந்ததைப் பற்றி பேசுகிறார். மேலும், முதல் ஏற்பாட்டு மக்களை இறைவன் விடுவித்தது போல இப்பொழுது இவர்களை பாவங்களிலிருந்து மீட்பவர் இயேசுவே என்று வெளிப்படுத்துகிறார். இயேசுவின் சுதந்திரம் நம்மை முழுமையான வாழ்வுக்கு அழைத்துச் செல்கின்றது. கடவுளில் சுதந்திரமாக இருப்பது என்பது அவருடைய இறைசித்தத்தை உணர்ந்து அவருடைய வழிகளில் வாழ நம்மையே சரணடைவதாகும்.
