*Double dealing in God’s Word *
The religious traditions are meant to uplift and lead an individual to a better way of life than to underestimate or subdue a person. Jesus tells the Jewish elders that they pay less heed to God’s command because they are clouded by their own notions of legalism. He accused them specifically of two things. First of all as hypocrites, they appear to show God’s word in their external practices, while inwardly harbor evil desires and intentions in their hearts. Their life betrays a disconnection between outward appearance and inward reality. Secondly, he blamed them of abandoning God’s word by substituting with their own arguments and interpretations. They listened to clever arguments rather than to God’s word. Jesus offers a specific example quoting the prophecy of Isaiah where the prophet accuses the people of his day for honouring God with their lips, while their hearts went astray because of disobedience to God’s laws.
மதம் சார்ந்த மரபுகள் ஒரு நபரை குறைத்து மதிப்பிடுவதையோ அல்லது கீழ்ப்படுத்துவதையோவிட ஒரு சிறந்த பாதையாக செயல்பட்டு வாழ்க்கையை உயர்த்தவும் வழிநடத்தவும் வழிவகுக்கும். யூதத் தலைவர்கள் கடவுளின் கட்டளைகளுக்கு முழுக்கவனம் செலுத்தாதன் காரணம், அவர்கள் சட்டம் சார்ந்தவற்றில் தங்கள் சொந்த கருத்துக்களோடு மூழ்கியிருப்பதால். இதனால், இரண்டு காரியங்களில் இயேசு அவர்களை குற்றம் சாட்டியுள்ளார். முதலாவதாக, வெளிவேடக்காரர்களாக அவர்கள் இறைவார்த்தையை நடைமுறையில் வெளிபடுத்தினாலும் தங்கள் மனதில் தீய ஆசைகளையும் உள்நோக்கங்களையும் கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர். அவர்களின் வாழ்வு வெளிப்புற தோற்றத்திற்கும் உள்நோக்கிய உண்மைக்கும் இடையே பிளவுபட்டிருப்பதைக் காட்டுகிறது. இரண்டாவதாக, இறைவார்த்தையின் அடித்தளத்திற்கு பதிலாக தங்களின் சொந்த வாதங்களையும் விளக்கங்களையும் முன்வைத்தார்கள். இறைவார்த்தையைவிட புத்திசாலித்தனமான வாதங்களை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டார்கள். ஏசாயா இறைவாக்கினரின் இறைவாக்கை ஒர் உதாரணமாக இயேசு இங்கு மேற்கோள் காட்டுகிறார். இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் கடவுளின் வார்த்தைகளை உதட்டளவில் கொளரவித்தார்கள் ஆனால் உள்ளத்தில் இறைச்சட்டத்திற்கு கீழ்படியாமல் வாழ்ந்தார்கள் என்று குற்றம் சாட்டுகிறார் இறைவாக்கினர்.
