*5th Week in Ord. Time, Thursday – 14th February 2019 — Gospel: Mark 7,24-30*
*Dynamics of Wisdom leading to Miracle*
The primary requisite for healing that Jesus looks in every individual, either expressed vocally or treasured deep down in one’s heart, is faith. The Markan account of the healing of the daughter of the Syro-Phoenician woman has no reference to faith. Jesus’ identity is an issue in this narrative as it begins with his entering a house, because he did not want anyone to know he was there (7,24). In the progression of an exchange between Jesus and the woman, there emerges wisdom that leads to healing. Although a Gentile, she approaches boldly and begs him to cast demon out of her daughter. Jesus’ surprising rebuffs and the woman’s relentless persistence in adapting cleverly the metaphor of Jesus’ saying to her own situation wins her the needed favour. This is the only story in the New Testament where someone’s dispute with Jesus results in changing Jesus’ mind. This means that the woman’s speech discloses an exceptional wisdom. The presence of the practical wisdom in her dynamic dialogue turns out to be the catalyst that activates a miracle, for her daughter is healed simply through “the word” of Jesus.
ஓவ்வொருவரும் குணம்பெற அடிப்படைப் பண்பாக அவரின் உள்ளார்ந்த அல்லது வெளிப்படையான நம்பிக்கையை கண்டுணர்கிறார் இயேசு. மாற்கு நற்செய்தியாளரின் சிரிய பெனிசிய இனப் பெண்ணின் மகள் குணம்பெறும் இந்நிகழ்வில் “நம்பிக்கை”யின் குறிப்புகள் இடம்பெறவில்லை. இவ்வர்ணனையின் தொடக்கத்திலேயே இயேசுவின் அடையாளத்தை மறைக்க முயற்சி செய்தார் என்று அறிகிறோம், ஆனால் அதை மறைக்க இயலவில்லை என்று நற்செய்தியாளர் குறிப்பிடுகிறார். இயேசுவுக்கும் கானானியப் பெண்ணுக்கும் இடையே நடந்த உரையாடலில் ஞானம் வெளிப்படுத்தப்பட்டு குணபெறுவதில் நிறைவடைகிறது. புறஇனத்தவளாகிய அப்பெண் தைரியமாக இயேசுவை அணுகினாள். அவளுடைய மகளிடமிருந்து பேயை ஓட்டிவிடுமாறு அவரை கெஞ்சிக் கேட்கிறாள். இதற்கு பதிலாக இயேசுவின் வியத்தகு அவதூறுகளும், இப்பெண்ணின் விடாப்பிடியான வாதங்களும், குறிப்பாக இயேசு பயன்படுத்திய உருவகத்தைக் கொண்டே அவருடைய ஆதரவைப் பெற்றதும், ஒரு புதிய திருப்புமுனையாக அமைந்துள்ளது. புதிய ஏற்பாட்டிலே இயேசுவோடு சர்ச்சை செய்து இயேசுவின் மனநிலையை மாற்றிய நிகழ்வு இது மட்டுமே. இப்பெண்ணின் பேச்சிலே ஒரு அபூர்வமான ஞானம் வெளிப்படுகிறது. அவளது சக்தி வாய்ந்த உரையாடலில் நடைமுறை ஞானம் கிரியா ஊக்கியாக செயல்பட்டு ஓர் அதிசயத்தை நடைமுறைப்படுத்தியது. இதன் விளைவாக இயேசு வெறுமனே “வார்த்தை”யின் மூலம் குணமளிக்கின்றார்.
