*5th Week in Ord. Time, Friday – 15th February 2019 — Gospel: Mark 7,31-37*

The deaf and dumb man is brought to Jesus by some men who could hear and speak. They believed that Jesus would do something for this sick person. Immediately, Jesus accomplishes healing for this man with a series of specific actions. First, he takes the man away from the crowd so that he can minister personally to him. He places his fingers in the man’s ears and then spits on his hands and touches the man’s tongue. Jesus then looks up to heaven, emits an emotional and compassionate sigh, and speaks to the man “Be opened”. These chain of activities illustrate Jesus’ profound respect for the human person and he uses the material elements of the world as instruments of divine grace. Through these signs, he communicates God’s healing grace and his saving mission that acts as a kind of sacramental language. Thus the hero of this episode is healed, not only physically but also spiritually.
காதுகேளாமல் திக்கிப்பேசும் ஒருவரை நன்றாக கேட்கவும் பேசவும் இயலும் சிலர் இயேசுவிடம் கொணர்ந்தனர். அவர்களின் நம்பிக்கையெல்லாம் நோயுற்ற இவருக்கு இயேசு ஏதாவது செய்வார் என்ற எதிர்பார்ப்பே. உடனே, இயேசு தம்முடைய தொடர்ச்செயல்களால் அவரை நலமாக்குகின்றார். முதலில் அவருக்கு தனிப்பட்ட கவனம் செலுத்த அம்மனிதரை கூட்டத்திலிருந்து தனிமைப்படுத்துகின்றார். தன்னுடைய விரல்களை அவரின் காதுகளில் இடுகின்றார். பின்னர் தம் கைகளில் உமிழ்ந்து அவரது நாக்கைத் தொடுகின்றார். பின்னர் வானத்தை உற்று நோக்கி, இயேசு அம்மனிதரிடம் உணர்வுப்பூர்வமாய் உள்ளக்கருணையுடன் “திறக்கப்படு” என்று கூறினார். இத்தொடர்ச் செயல்களின் வழியே இயேசு மனிதன் மேல் கொண்டிருக்கும் ஆழ்ந்த மரியாதையை எண்பிக்கின்றார். மேலும், சில அன்றாட உலகியல் செயல்களை இறையருளின் கருவியாக பயன்படுத்தியுள்ளார். இந்த அருங்குறிகள் கடவுளின் நலமளிக்கும் கிருபையையும் மீட்பளிக்கும் பணியையும் வெளிப்படுத்தும் அருட்சாதன அடையாளங்களாக மாறுகின்றன. இதனால் இந்த நிகழ்வின் கதாநாயகன் உடலளவில் நலம் பெற்றதைவிட ஆன்மீக அளவில் முழுமை அடைந்தார் எனலாம்.
