*Feeding orientates Fullness of the Kingdom *
This narrative closely parallels the previous account of Jesus feeding the five thousand in Galilee (6,35-44) and it is very distinct in many sense. In the former account, Jesus describes the crowd as sheep without a shepherd, indicating the lack of leadership and its danger. This specific Jewish element of the story is eliminated here. Rather, Jesus’ concern here is for the multitude’s hunger who have accompanied him during his travels through the Gentile lands. In the First Testament, “people from afar” often refers to the Gentiles who will be gathered as God’s people at the end of the age. The mention of this phrase here brings to focus the Gentiles who are inclusive in Jesus’ mission, which is also highlighted numerically. He feeds with seven loaves, a number associated with completion and fullness. The fragments gathered doesn’t fill up to twelve baskets, but seven. Finally, Jesus’ feeding four thousand is a symbolic number, which specifies the vastness of the crowd. In ancient times, the number four indicated the four directions of the wind and four corners of the world. Jesus’ feeding of hungry crowd expresses the worldwide orientation of the gospel, the kingdom that includes Gentiles as well.
இவ்வர்ணனை ஏற்கனவே கலிலேயாவில் இயேசு ஐயாயிரம் பேருக்கு உணவளித்த நிகழ்வோடு ஒத்திருந்தாலும், தனிப்பட்ட விதத்தில் பல்வேறு வித்தியாசங்களையும் கொண்டிருக்கின்றது. முந்தைய வர்ணனையில், தலைமைத்துவமின்றி வழியை இழந்து தவிக்கும் மக்கள் கூட்டத்தை கண்டு இயேசு ஆயன் இல்லா ஆடுகளைப் போல என்று விவரிக்கின்றார். இன்றைய வர்ணனையில் இந்த யூத பின்னணி நீக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. மாறாக, இயேசுவின் அக்கறையானது பிற இனப்பகுதிகளுக்கு தன்னுடன் பயணித்து பசியினால் அவதியுறும் மக்களை முன்வைக்கின்றது. முதல் ஏற்பாட்டில், “ நெடுந்தொலையிலிருந்து வந்துள்ளனர்” என்பது பெரும்பாலும் இறுதிக்காலத்தில் பிறஇனத்தவர்கள் கடவுளின் மக்களாக ஒன்றிணைவதை குறிக்கிறது. இங்கு பயன்படுத்தப்படும் இதே சொற்றொடர் இயேசுவின் பணிக்கு உட்பட்டிருக்கும் பிறஇனத்தாரை மையப்படுத்துகின்றது. இதே கருத்தை எண்ணிக்கை வடிவில் வலியுறுத்தியுள்ளார் நற்செய்தியாளர். ஏழு அப்பங்களைக் கொண்டு அவர்களுக்கு உணவளித்தார், இதில் ஏழு என்ற எண் நிறைவை அல்லது முழுமையை குறிக்கின்றது. அதே போல, சேகரிக்கப்பட்ட துண்டுகள் பன்னிரெண்டு கூடைகளில் அல்ல, மாறாக ஏழு கூடைகளில் நிரப்பப்பட்டன என்று குறிப்பிட்டு மீண்டும் முழுமையை நிலைநாட்டுகின்றார். இறுதியில், நாலாயிரம் மக்கள் உண்டனர் என்பதும் அடையாள எண்ணிக்கையை குறிப்பதாக அமைந்துள்ளது. இது எண்ணிக்கையில்லா அல்லது பரந்துபட்ட கூட்டத்தை குறிப்பதாகும். முந்தைய காலங்களில் எண் நான்கு என்பது காற்றின் நாற்திசையையும், உலகின் நான்கு மூலையையும் சுட்டிக்காட்டியது. இங்கு, பசியோடு இருந்த மக்கள் கூட்டத்திற்கு இயேசு உணவளித்தது, உலகளாவிய நற்செய்தியை அதாவது பிறஇனத்தாரையும் உள்ளடக்கிய இறையாட்சியை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றது.
