*Annunciation of the Lord, Monday – 25th March 2019 — Gospel: Lk 1,26-38*
*Mary’s enabling grace *
God surely knows how to lay a heavy burden or responsibility on a person. Mary was left troubled, confused, and afraid of divine announcement. Yet she was able to say ‘yes’ to the angel’s invitation, because Mary was full of grace. Grace is a gift that God has freely given to all, especially at an appropriate moment. There are many kinds of grace. For example, God gives the grace of salvation, the grace to believe, and the grace to die to oneself. In this manner, God gave Mary an “enabling grace”, which moved her to say resolutely, “Let it be done to me according to your word”. The grace of God acts in an individual like fuel, for it makes things happen, it clears uncertainties and helps to hold fast to firm decision. As St.Paul says, “It is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure” (Phil 2,13). Mary then becomes an icon of Grace, where God fills everyone with grace to accept His responsibility and gives strength to carry out that responsibility.
ஒரு நபர் மீது எப்பேற்பட்ட கடுமைiயான சுமையை அல்லது பொறுப்பை கொடுக்கலாம் என்பதை கடவுள் நிச்சயம் அறிவார். தெய்வீக அறிவிப்பினால் கலக்கமும், குழப்பமும், பயமும் அடைந்திருந்தாள் மரியாள். ஆனாலும், வானதூதரின் மங்கள வார்த்தைக்கு “ஆம்” என்று அவளால் சொல்ல முடிந்தது; காரணம் அவள் அருள் மிகப்பெற்றவளாய் இருந்ததால். குறிப்பாக, பொருத்தமான தருணத்தில் கடவுள் எல்லாருக்கும் கொடுக்கும் இலவசமான பரிசு அருள். பல்வேறு வகையான அருள்கள் உள்ளன. எடுத்துக்காட்டாக, மீட்பின் அருளையும், நம்பிக்கையின் அருளையும், சுயநலத்தை இழப்பதற்கான அருளையும் கடவுளே வழங்குகின்றார். இவ்விதமாக, “உமது விருப்பப்படியே எனக்கு ஆகட்டும்” என்ற உறுதியான பதிலின் தூண்டுதலுக்கு “செயல்படுத்தும் அருளை” மரியாளுக்கு கடவுள் வழங்கினார். கடவுளின் அருள் எரிபொருளைப் போலச் செயல்படுகிறது. ஏனெனில் அது சில காரியங்களைச் செய்ய வைக்கிறது, நிச்சயமற்ற தன்மையை களைகிறது, உறுதியான முடிவை எடுக்க உறுதுணையாய் இருக்கிறது. இதனை தூய பவுல் “கடவுளே உங்களுள் செயலாற்றுகின்றார். அவரே தம் திருவுளப்படி நீங்கள் செயல்படுவதற்கான விருப்பத்தையம் ஆற்றலையும் தருகிறார்” என்று எடுத்துக் கூறுகின்றார். கடவுள் தரும் பொறுப்பை ஏற்றுக் கொள்வோர் அருளினால் நிரப்பப்படுவதற்கும், அப்பொறுப்பை செயல்படுத்த சக்தியைப் பெறுவோருக்கும், மரியாள் அருளின் சின்னமாக திகழ்கின்றாள் .
