*4th week in Lent, Monday – 1st April 2019 — Gospel: Jn 4,43-54*
*Personal faith augments one’s household *
The royal official, whose son was sick in Capernaum, made the uphill journey all the way to Cana after hearing that Jesus the healer was there. He pleads with Jesus to heal his dying son. Despite Jesus’ critique of those who seek signs and wonders, the man persists in his request. The heart of the account comes when Jesus assures the man of his son’s recovery and the man’s firm belief in his words. This is an effective faith that brings forth its result immediately. It is a belief based not on signs and wonders, not even by Jesus’ touch but by his spoken word that can give new life from afar. Unlike other Galileans, the man takes Jesus at his word and departs. Faith in Jesus’ word brings back his son alive instantly, which is again witnessed by his slaves and verified by them with the corresponding time. The power in Jesus’ words is crowned by saying that the new faith of the royal official augments his whole household to another level of faith.
கப்பர்நகூமில் வாழ்ந்த அரசு அதிகாரி, கானாவில் குணமளிக்கும் வல்லமை கொண்ட இயேசு இருக்கிறார் என்பதை அறிந்து, தனது நோயுற்ற மகனுக்காக கானா என்ற ஊருக்கு தனது பயணத்தை மேற்கொண்டார். இறக்கும் தருவாயில் இருக்கும் தம் மகன் நலம்பெற அவரிடம் மன்றாடினார். இயேசு அறிகுறிகளையும் அதிசங்களையும் கேட்கிறவர்களை விமர்ச்சிக்கும் தருணத்தில், இவ்வதிகாரி தன்னுடைய வேண்டுகோளில் உறுதியாய் இருந்தார். இப்பகுதியின் மைய நிகழ்வாக அவர் மகன் குணம்பெறுவார் என்று இயேசு உறுதியளிப்பதையும், அவருடைய வார்த்தைகளில் அவ்வதிகாரி கொண்ட உறுதியான நம்பிக்கையையும் காண்கிறோம். இங்கு பயனுள்ள நம்பிக்கை உடனடி விளைவுகளை பெற்றுத் தருகிறது. இச்செயல் அடையாளங்களாலும், அற்புதங்களாலும், இயேசுவின் தொடுதலாலும் நிகழவில்லை; மாறாக, அவரது வார்த்தை தொலைதூரத்திலும் புதிய வாழ்வை தரும் என்பதைக் காட்டுகிறது. மற்ற கலிலேயரைப் போல் இல்லாமல் இம்மனிதர் இயேசுவின் வார்த்தையை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டு தனது சொந்த ஊருக்கு உடனே திரும்பினார். இயேசுவின் வார்த்தையில் கொண்ட நம்பிக்கை அவரது மகனுக்கு உடனடியாக உயிர் அளிக்கின்றது. இதற்கு அவருடைய அடிமைகள் சாட்சியம் பகர்கின்றனர். அவர்கள் அந்நேரத்தை ஒப்பிட்டுச் சரிபார்த்தனர். இயேசுவின் வார்த்தைகளில் உள்ள வல்லமை உச்சநிலையை இங்கு அடைகின்றது. அதாவது இந்த அரசு அதிகாரியின் புதிய நம்பிக்கை அவருடைய வீட்டார் அனைவரையும் இயேசுவினில் நம்பிக்கை கொள்ள வைத்து நம்பிக்கையின் அடுத்த நிலைக்கு கொண்டு செல்கிறது.
