*4th week in Lent, Tuesday – 2nd April 2019 — Gospel: Jn 5,1-3a.5-16*
*Word of God proves his nature *
The pool where this healing occurred was just north of the Jerusalem temple. It was fed by an intermittent spring popularly believed to have healing qualities. Among the large number of sick and disabled who gathered at the pool, Jesus focused on a man who had been ill for 38 years. However, the irony of the scene is that Jesus bypassed the pool and its gushing spring with past healing history, which had just been so carefully described. Here again, as in the case of the royal official’s son, Jesus heals the sick man with his spoken word. He gives a command that is contrary to the ordinary request. His command directs the sick man to take up his mat and walk, and later emphasizes in His word that exhorts him to sin no more. Jesus who is Word of God made flesh, proves his nature in this scene. Surely, His words are more powerful than the traditional stirring of an angel that brings healing to the sick. He also brings to lime light that he is Son of God who can forgive sins.
எருசலேம் ஆலயத்திற்கு வடக்கே குணமளிக்கும் குளம் ஒன்று இருந்தது. இக்குளத்தின் இடையில் உள்ள நீருற்று குணப்படுத்தும் குணங்களைக் கொண்டிருப்பதாக நம்பப்படுகிறது. இக்குளத்தைச் சுற்றியுள்ள எண்ணற்ற நோயாளர்கள், ஊனமுற்றோர்கள் மத்தியில், 38 ஆண்டுகளாக உடல் நலமற்றிருந்த ஒருவரை இயேசு உற்று நோக்குகின்றார். ஆனால் இக்காட்சி வஞ்சப் புகழ்ச்சியாக அமைந்துள்ளது. காரணம் இக்குளத்தின் வரலாறு கடந்த நீருற்றின் குணமளிக்கும் பெருமையை கவனத்துடன் விவரித்திருந்தாலும் இயேசு அதனை ஒரங்கட்டுவதாக குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. அரசு அதிகாரியின் மகன் குணம் பெற்றது போல, இங்கே மறுபடியும் இயேசு தம்முடைய வார்த்தையின் மூலம் நோயுற்றவரை குணப்படுத்துகின்றார். நோயுற்றவரின் எளிய வேண்டுகோளுக்கு முரணாக இயேசு அவருக்கு ஒரு கட்டளையை கொடுக்கின்றார். அக்கட்டளை நோயுற்றவர் தம் படுக்கையை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு நடக்க வேண்டும் என்பதே. பின்னர் அவருடைய வார்த்தையின் மூலம் பாவம் செய்யாதே என்றும் வலியுறுத்துகின்றார். இவ்வாறு இறைவார்த்தையின் மனுவுருமான இயேசு தன்னுடைய இயல்பு நிலையை இங்கு நிரூபித்துக் காட்டுகின்றார். நிச்சயமாக அவரது வார்த்தைகள் பாரம்பரியமாய் நம்பப்பட்டு வந்த வானதூதரின் குணமளிக்கும் தன்மையை விட மிகுந்த அதிகாரம் கொண்டிருந்தன. மேலும், அவர் பிறரின் பாவங்களை மன்னிக்கும் கடவுளின் மகன் என்பதை இங்கு வெட்ட வெளிச்சமாக்குகின்றார்.
