*4th week in Lent, Wednesday – 3rd April 2019 — Gospel: Jn 5,17-30*

Jesus defends his authority to work on the Sabbath and claims of his equality with God. Breaking the Sabbath was a serious offence, but claiming oneself equal to God constituted blasphemy, the most serious offence of all. Jesus explains his relationship with the Father, as the son learns from the father through example and imitation. In all that Jesus does he is never independent; he is subject to the Father and dependent on the Father’s power and love. This union with the Father gives him the privilege on earth to carry out His work; that of giving eternal life and executing judgement. Eternal life is given to those who hear the words of Jesus and believe in the Father who sent him. The executing judgment takes place, for those who accept or reject the revelation of God through Jesus. While the eternal life and judgement take place in the life after, some are condemned or vindicated even now.
ஓய்வுநாளில் வேலை செய்வதிலும் கடவுளுக்கு இணையாக இருப்பதிலும் தனக்கு இருக்கும் அதிகாரத்தைப் பற்றி பறைசாற்றுகின்றார் இயேசு. ஓய்வுநாளை மீறுவது கடுமையான குற்றமாகும் அதைவிட கடவுளுக்கு சமமாக இருப்பதாக கூறுவது தெய்வ நிந்தனையாகும். இது எல்லா குற்றங்களையும்விட மிகவும் மோசமான குற்றமாகும். தந்தையின் முன்மாதிரிகையாலும், அவரைப் பின்பற்றுவதிலும் மகன் கற்றுக் கொள்ளுகின்ற அதே பாணியில், இயேசு தம் தந்தையோடு உள்ள உறவை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றார். இயேசு தம்முடைய செயல்கள் அனைத்திலும் எப்பொழுதும் தனித்து செயல்படவில்லை; மாறாக, தந்தைக்கு கீழ்ப்படிந்து அவருடைய அதிகாரத்திற்கும் அன்பிற்கும் சார்ந்தே வாழ்கின்றார். தந்தைக்கும் மகனுக்கும் உள்ள இவ்வுறவில் இயேசு தந்தையின் பணிகளான: நித்திய வாழ்வையும், நியாயத் தீர்ப்பையும், இவ்வுலகிலேயே நிறைவேற்றும் சிறப்புரிமையை பெறுகின்றார். இயேசுவின் வார்த்தைகளை கேட்டு அவரை அனுப்பிய தந்தையின் மீது நம்பிக்கை கொள்பவர்களுக்கு நிலைவாழ்வு வழங்கப்படுகிறது. இயேசுவின் மூலம் கடவுளுடைய வெளிப்பாட்டை ஏற்றுக் கொள்பவர்களுக்கு அல்லது நிராகரிப்பவர்களுக்கு நியாயத் தீர்ப்பு வழங்கப்படுகிறது. நிலை வாழ்வும் நியாயத் தீர்ப்பும் இந்த வாழ்க்கைக்குப் பிறகு நடந்தாலும், ஒரு சிலருக்கு கண்டனமும் அல்லது தண்டனையம் இப்பொழுதே நடைபெறும்.
