*5th week in Lent, Wednesday – 10th April 2019 — Gospel: Jn 8,31-42*
*Abide in His word of truth and freedom*
Jesus addresses his listeners, the Jews, who had begun to believe in him. He recognizes the tentative nature of their faith and invites them to true discipleship. And so, Jesus is asking them to live with his word so that gradually the vision and the direction of their lives will change. They will truly be his disciples if they abide in his words. Their life will be transformed if they create space for His word to take possession in them. When they abide with Jesus’ word, two things will take place. First, they will come to know the real truth. It is truth about themselves, of their descendants, their status of slavery and sinfulness, and finally of God. This “truth” is rich and far beyond one’s intellectual knowledge. In fact, this truth is linked to the ancient concept of knowing that engages the whole person in a profound acceptance. Second is, this truth will make them free. This is a genuine “freedom” results from a personal welcome of Jesus’ word. Deep confidence and interior freedom in Jesus will lead to an intimate relationship with God.
தாம் பேசுவதை கவனித்து, நம்பத் தொடங்கியிருக்கும் யூதர்களிடம் இயேசு உரையாற்றுகின்றார். அவர்களுடைய நம்பிக்கையின் தற்காலிகத் தன்மையை அவர் அங்கீகரித்து அவர்களை உண்மை சீடர்களாக வாழ அழைக்கின்றார். எனவே தம்முடைய வார்த்தையை ஏற்று வாழ வேண்டுமென்று இயேசு அவர்களிடம் கேட்கின்றார். இதனால், படிப்படியாக அவர்களுடைய வாழ்க்கை இலட்சியமும் பாதையும் மாறும் என்கின்றார். அவருடைய வார்த்தைகளில் நிலைத்திருந்தால் உண்மையில் அவர்கள் அவருடைய சீடர்களாக இருப்பார்கள். அவருடைய வார்த்தையை சொந்தமாக்கிக் கொள்ளும் சூழலை உருவாக்கினால் அவர்களுடைய வாழ்வே உருமாற்றம் அடைந்துவிடும். இயேசுவின் வார்த்தையில் உறுதியாய் இருந்தால் இரண்டு விடயங்கள் நடைபெறும். முதலில், அவர்கள் உண்மையை அறிந்து கொள்வார்கள். இவ்வுண்மை தங்களைப் பற்றியும், உறவுகளைப் பற்றியும், அடிமைத்தனம் மற்றும் பாவ நிலை பற்றியும், இறுதியாக கடவுளைப் பற்றியதுமாய் வெளிப்படும். இவ்வுண்மை ஆழமானது மற்றும் ஊன் அறிவுக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டது. அதாவது, இவ்வுண்மை முழு ஆளுமையையும் ஆழமாக ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள முனையும் பண்டைய காலத்து அறிந்து கொள்ளும் முறையுடன் இணைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இரண்டாவதாக, இவ்வுண்மை அவர்களுக்கு விடுதலையளிக்கும். உண்மையான விடுதலை இயேசுவின் வார்த்தையை தனிப்பட்ட முறையில் வரவேற்றதின் முடிவாகும். இயேசுவில் கொண்டிருக்கும் ஆழ்ந்த நம்பிக்கையும் உள்ளார்ந்த சுதந்திரமும் கடவுளுடன் நெருக்கமான உறவு கொள்ள வழிவகுக்கும்.
