*5th week in Lent, Thursday – 11th April 2019 — Gospel: Jn 8,51-59*
*Rejection of Jesus and his word *
The Jewish believers reject the words of Jesus the second time by an appeal to Abraham (8,52-53). Jesus responds by announcing that Abraham looked forward to this day (8,56), the day when all peoples would be blessed through Abraham’s offspring (Gen 12,3). Earlier too, they resisted Jesus’ invitation to discipleship, by stating that they are already free as descendants of Abraham (8,39). Unlike Abraham they have not opened their lives to the transforming power of God’s word. Their actions indicate that they are not able to accept Jesus as eternal Word, existed with God from eternity. They failed to grasp his teachings that he is voice of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of the living. They were blind to understand that He is the source of life and hope even for Abraham and the prophets. This claim to divinity was too much for the crowd, who rejected his message and took up stones to cast at Him, considering him as blasphemer.
இரண்டாம் முறையாக ஆபிரகாமை குறித்துகாட்டி யூதர்கள் இயேசுவின் வார்த்தைகளை நிராகரித்தார்கள். ஆபிரகாமின் சந்ததியினர் எல்லோரும் ஆசிர்வதிக்கப்படும் இந்நாளை ஆபிரகாம் எதிர்பார்த்து இருந்தார் என்று இயேசு அறிவித்தார். இதற்கு முன்னதாகவும் அவர்கள் ஆபிரகாமின் மக்களைப் போன்று செயல்படாததால் இயேசுவின் சீடத்துவ அழைப்பை மறுத்தனர் என்று இயேசு அறிவிக்கின்றார். காரணம், ஆபிரகாமைப் போல் கடவுளுடைய மனமாற்றம் தரும் வல்லமையான வார்த்தைக்கு திறந்த மனதுடன் அவர்கள் வாழவில்லை. நிலையான வார்த்தையாம் இயேசுவை, கடவுளுடன் நித்தியத்திற்கும் இணைந்திருந்த அவரை, இம்மக்கள் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளவில்லை என்பதனை அவர்களின் செயல்கள் வெளிப்படுத்தின. இவ்வாறு ஆபிரகாம், ஈசாக்கு மற்றும் யாக்கோபின் கடவுளுடைய குரலை அதாவது வாழும் கடவுளை போதித்த இயேசுவினுடைய போதனையை புரிந்து கொள்ளத் தவறினார்கள். ஆபிரகாம் மற்றும் இறைவாக்கினர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் இயேசுவே வாழ்வின் ஊற்றும் நம்பிக்கையும் என்பதை புரிந்துகொள்ளாத இவர்கள் கண் இருந்தும் குருடர்களே. இயேசுவின் தெய்வீகத் தன்மையை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாத இக்கூட்டத்தார் அவருடைய போதனையை எதிர்த்தனர், அவரைக் கல்லால் எரிந்து கொல்ல முயற்சித்தனர், மற்றும் அவர் தெய்வ நிந்தனை செய்கிறார் என்று கருதினர்.
