*Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord – 14th April 2019 — Gospel: Lk 22,14-23,56*
*Not in terms of suffering, but of sacrifice *
With the birth of Jesus, the inauguration of the Kingdom took place. And now with the entry into Jerusalem and through his passion, death, and resurrection Jesus establishes the Kingdom of God. Strikingly both at the beginning and at the end, Jesus bore personal witness to this Kingdom of contrasting nature. As our King, Jesus chose to enter Jerusalem riding on a donkey, a lowly animal, is a huge contrast. That he was crowned with thorns and not with gold, and beaten rather than bowed and worshipped is another contradiction. That he, who would judge between heaven and earth, was judged and condemned by many of his own people is still another great contrast. This is the gateway into Holy Week. Jesus went through all the pain and humiliation of the cross so that we could be reconciled with God. He who is life itself embraced death so that we could receive eternal life. And through all the contrasts, ups and downs that he faced, Jesus continued to love and forgive his people. Till the end, He was focused to that one goal: his mission to save all. And the test, for all of us, is not just how much we are willing to take in terms of suffering, but how much we are willing to give in terms of sacrifice.
இயேசுவின் பிறப்பில் இறையாட்சி தொடங்கியது. இப்பொழுது எருசலேமில் நுழைந்து, அவருடைய பாடுகள், மரணம், உயிர்ப்பு மூலம் இறையாட்சியை நிலைபெறச் செய்கின்றார். தொடக்கத்திலும் இறுதியிலும் இயேசு இந்த இறையாட்சியின் முரண்பட்ட நிலையை சாட்சியமாக வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றார். நம் அரசராக இயேசு எருசலேமில் நுழைகையில் ஒரு கழுதையின் மீது, அதாவது ஒதுக்கிவைக்கப்பட்ட விலங்கின் மீது, ஏறிச் சென்றது மிகப் பெரிய முரண்பாடாகும். மற்றொரு முரண்பாடு அவருக்கு முள்ளால் மகுடம் சூட்டினர், தங்கத்தினால் அல்ல; அவரை வணங்கி ஆராதிக்காமல் அடித்து நொறுக்கினர். மேலும் விண்ணுக்கும் மண்ணுக்கும் நீதிபதியானவரை, அவருடைய சொந்த மக்களே தீர்ப்பிட்டு கண்டனம் செய்தனர் என்பதும் மிகப் பெரிய முரண்பாடாகும். இதுவே புனித வாரத்தின் நுழைவாயிலாகும். நாம் கடவுளுடன் ஒப்புரவு கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக இயேசு சிலுவையின் வழியே அனைத்து துன்பங்களையும் அவமானங்களையும் ஏற்றுக் கொண்டார். நாம் அனைவரும் நிலைவாழ்வைப் பெற்றுக் கொள்ளும் பொருட்டு, வாழ்வானவர் மரணத்தை தழுவிக்கொண்டார். இயேசு எதிர் கொண்ட எல்லா முரண்பாடுகளிலும், ஏற்றத் தாழ்வுகளிலும் அவர் அன்பையும் மன்னிப்பையும் தம் மக்களுக்குத் தொடர்ந்து வழங்கினார். இறுதிவரை அவர் ஒரே இலட்சியத்தில் கவனம் செலுத்தினார்: எல்லோரையும் மீட்பது என்ற பணியில். நம் அனைவருக்குமான சோதனை இதுவே: நாம் எவ்வாறு துன்பத்தை விருப்பத்தோடு ஏற்றுக் கொள்கின்றோம் என்பதல்ல, மாறாக நாம் எவ்வளவு விருப்பத்தோடு தியாகம் செய்ய முன்வருகின்றோம் என்பதே அது.
