*Saturday Vigil – 20th April 2019 — Gospel: Mt 28,1-10*

When the two Mary’s return to the tomb as daylight dawns on Sunday, there is a great earthquake. An angel descends and rolls back the stone from the tomb. The Roman soldiers who witnessed this were faint in terror. The magnitude of the earthquake rocks the very foundations of the earth. Its impact is not destructive, but life-creating and hope-inducing. The earthquake points to the world-changing and earth shattering implications of the resurrection of Israel’s messiah. God acts and we are afraid: afraid of his power, afraid of the upheaval it causes, or afraid because we simply can’t comprehend his ways. The resurrection was like that. In contrast to the deadening fear of the guards, the angel strengthens the believing women saying, “Do not be afraid.” The women having shed their fear took up the task of proclaiming the good news of resurrection. It is in moving out of this innate fear that they encounter the risen Jesus. Like the angel, through his physical manifestation Jesus strengthens them not to be afraid. He too encourages them on their mission as the first witnesses and evangelizers of his resurrection.
ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை விடியற்காலையில் இரண்டு மரியாள்களும் கல்லறைக்குத் திரும்பிய போது பெரும் பூகம்பம் நிலவியது. வானத்திலிருந்து வந்த தூதர் ஒருவர் கல்லறையிலிருந்த கல்லைப் புரட்டிப்போட்டார். இதைக் கண்ட உரோமை வீரர்கள் பயத்தில் மயங்கிப்போனார்கள். பூகம்பத்தின் வீரியம் பூமியின் அடித்தளங்களை உடைத்தெடுக்கிறது. அதன் தாக்கம் அழிவல்ல, மாறாக வாழ்க்கை உருவாக்கமும் நம்பிக்கையின் தூண்டுதலாகும். எனவே, இப்பூகம்பம் இந்த உலகமாற்றத்தையும் இஸ்ராயேலின் மெசியா உயிர்த்தெழும் தாக்கத்தையும் குறிக்கிறது. கடவுள் செயல்படுகிறார், அதனால் நாம் அஞ்சுகின்றோம். அவருடைய வல்லமைக்கு அஞ்சுகின்றோம். அதன் கிளர்ச்சிக்கு அஞ்சுகின்றோம் அல்லது நாம் கடவுளின் வழிகளைப் புரிந்து கொள்ள முடியாமல் அஞ்சுகின்றோம். உயிர்த்தெழுதலும் அப்படியே. காவலர்களின் மரண பயத்திற்கு முரணாக வானதூதர் விசுவாசமுள்ள பெண்களை “அஞ்சாதீர்” என்று உறுதிப்படுத்துகின்றார். இதனால், அப்பெண்கள் அச்சத்தினை களைந்து உயிர்த்தெழுதலின் நற்செய்தி அறிவிப்பவர்களாக மாறினர். அவர்கள் தங்களுடைய உள்ளார்ந்த அச்சத்திலிருந்து வெளியேறியதால் உயிர்த்த இயேசுவை சந்தித்தனர். வானதூதரைப் போன்று உயிர்த்த உடலுடன் தம்மை வெளிப்படுத்திய இயேசுவும் அவர்களை அஞ்சாதீர்கள் என்று உறுதிப்படுத்தினார். மீண்டும் அவர்களை உயிர்த்தெழுதலின் முதல் சாட்சிகளாகவும் நற்செய்தி அறிவிக்கும் பணியாளர்களாகவும் அவர் ஊக்குவித்தார்.
