Cleopas and his unnamed companion, even though they have heard reports about the empty tomb of Jesus and angel’s message that Jesus is alive, walked back to Emmaus sad and disappointed, with shattered hopes. The question of Cleopas to stranger companion Jesus brings out their own skepticism at the women’s report of the empty tomb. The response of Jesus is forceful and reproaches them for not taking the Scriptures seriously regarding the suffering and glorification of the Messiah. Jesus’ interpretation of the Scriptures to them does not seem to refer to any particular passage. He shows that the ancient Scriptures, “beginning with Moses and all the prophets”, prepare for the gospel and are fulfilled in Jesus. He lays out for them the way in which “all Scriptures” have led up to God’s revelation of the cross and resurrection of Christ. As a first step to understand and love the risen Christ, Jesus opens the ancient Scriptures so that the disciples may open their eyes, mind and heart in hopefulness.
இயேசுவின் காலியான கல்லறை பற்றியும் வானதூதர் அறிவித்த இயேசுவின் உயிர்தெழுதலைப் பற்றியும் கேள்விப்பட்டிருந்தாலும் கூட கிளயோப்பாவும் அவருடைய பெயரிடப்படாத தோழரும் மனவருத்தத்துடனும் ஏமாற்றத்துடனும் நம்பிக்கை இழந்தவர்களாய் திரும்பி சென்று கொண்டிருந்தனர். அறிமுகமில்லா வழிப்போக்கரான இயேசுவிடம் கிளயோப்பா தொடுத்த கேள்வி காலியான கல்லறை பற்றிய பெண்களின் அறிக்கையில் சந்தேகத்தை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றது. இயேசுவோ மறைநூலில் மெசியாவின் துன்பத்தையும் மகிமையையும் குறிப்பிட்டிருக்கிறது என்று அறிந்திராத அவர்களின் மந்தநிலையை கடுமையாக சாடுகின்றார். இயேசுவின் மறைநூல் விளக்கமானது எந்த குறிப்பிட்ட பகுதியையும் மேற்கோள் காட்டவில்லை. அவர் முந்தைய மறைநூல் குறிப்புகளில் ‘மோசே தொடங்கி இறைவாக்கினர் வரைக்கும்’ உள்ள நிகழ்வுகள் நற்செய்தியின் முன்தயாரிப்பாகவும் இயேசுவில் நிறைவேறுவதையும் சுட்டிக் காட்டுகின்றார். மேலும் மறைநூல் அனைத்தும் கடவுளுடைய வெளிப்பாட்டின் படி கிறிஸ்துவின் சிலுவை மற்றும் உயிர்ப்பின் நிகழ்வை வழிவகுத்தன என்று தெளிவுபடுத்துகின்றார். எனவே உயிர்த்த கிறிஸ்துவை புரிந்து கொள்ளவும் அன்பு செய்யவும் முதல் படியாக, சீடர்கள் தங்களுடைய கண்களையும், மனதையும், இதயத்தையும் நம்பிக்கையோடு திறக்க வேண்டும் என்பதை இயேசு முந்தைய மறைநூல் குறிப்புகளின் அடிப்படையில் திறந்து காண்பிக்கிறார்.
