*Faithful Nicodemus *
Nicodemus has been attracted to Jesus through his teachings and signs. His approach to Jesus “by night” seems to indicate that he does not want other Pharisees to know about his interest in Jesus. But at a deeper level it means that he is leaving the darkness in order to come to Jesus, the light. His secret attempt to meet Jesus unfolds the foundation for the new life. Jesus states that experiencing the kingdom requires nothing less than a spiritual regeneration. It is a new birth, where one moves from darkness to light, from night to daylight. And this, Jesus explains that God requires everyone to be born again or born from above radically. This new birth is being “born of water and Spirit”, which embraces the fullness of life that God wants to give. Nicodemus embraced this new life by following Jesus faithfully till the end (Jn 19,39).
இயேசுவின் போதனைகளாலும் அடையாளங்களாலும் நிக்கோதேம் ஈர்க்கப்பட்டார். எனவே, இயேசுவைப் பற்றிய அவருடைய ஆர்வத்தை மற்ற பரிசேயர்கள் தெரிந்து கொள்ள விரும்பாததால் அவர் இயேசுவை இரவில் அணுகினார். அதாவது இன்னும் ஆழமாக புரிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டுமென்றால், ஒளியாம் இயேசுவை சந்திக்க இருளைவிட்டு வெளியே வருகிறார் என்று அர்த்தம் பெறுகிறது. இயேசுவை இரகசியமாக சந்திக்க எடுக்கும் அவரது முயற்சி புதிய வாழ்வுக்கான அடித்தளத்தை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றது. இதில் இறையாட்சியை அனுபவிப்பது ஒரு ஆன்மீக மறுமலர்ச்சியைக் காட்டிலும் குறைவாகவே தேவை என்பதை இங்கு இயேசு கூறுகிறார். இது ஒரு புதிய பிறப்பு, இருளிலிருந்து வெளிச்சத்திற்கும், இரவிலிருந்து பகலுக்கும் இடம் பெயர்வதாகும். ஆகையால், எல்லாரும் மறுபடியும் பிறக்க வேண்டும் என்றும், அல்லது மேலிருந்து பிறக்கும் வேண்டும் என்ற கடவுளின் தேவையை இயேசு தெளிவாக்குகின்றார். இப்புதிய பிறப்பு “ தண்ணீரிலும் ஆவியிலும் பிறப்பதாகும்.” இது கடவுள் கொடுக்க விரும்பும் வாழ்க்கையின் முழுமையைத் தழுவிக் கொள்கிறது. இந்த புதிய வாழ்க்கையை நிக்கோதேம் தொடக்கத்திலே ஏற்றுக் கொண்டு இறுதிவரை இயேசுவைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தார் என்று அறிகிறோம்.
