*Sharing friendship with Jesus*
As Jesus responded to the Father’s love with obedient, sacrificial love for others, so the disciples must respond to the love of Jesus with obedient, self-giving love for one another. Abiding in the love of Jesus means to love one another as Jesus loves. It means self-giving for others, even laying down one’s life for one’s friends. In this manner, Jesus uses the word “friend” to express the type of relationship he desires with those who follow him. Only Moses, the greatest figure of the Hebrew Scriptures, was privileged to speak to God as a “friend” (Ex 33,11), a relationship that seemed unattainable to the average Israelite. Yet Jesus calls his disciples “friends”, and like a true friend, shares the best of himself with his disciples. He lays down his life for them and he offers them the key to his Father’s house with all its riches. This unearned, undeserved gift of friendship gives disciples the freedom and the motivation we need to “bear fruit that will last”.
இறைத்தந்தையின் அன்பை கீழ்படிதலுடனும் தியாக உள்ளத்துடன் பிறரை அன்பு செய்வதிலும் இயேசு பிரதிபலித்தார். எனவே இயேசுவிடம் அன்பு கொண்டுள்ள அவருடைய சீடர்கள் கீழ்படிதலுடனும் தன்னலமற்ற அன்பை மற்றவர்களுக்கு காட்டுவதிலும் பிரதிபலிக்க வேண்டும். இயேசுவின் அன்பில் நிலைத்திருப்பது என்பது இயேசு நேசிப்பது போல ஒருவரையொருவர் நேசிப்பதாகும். இது மற்றவர்களுக்காக தன்னையே கொடுப்பது, அதாவது நண்பர்களுக்காக வாழ்வையே கொடுப்பதாகும். இவ்வாறு, தம்மைப் பின்பற்றுவோருடன் அவர் விரும்புகிற உறவினை வெளிப்படுத்த “நண்பன்” என்ற வார்த்தையை இயேசு பயன்படுத்துகின்றார். எபிரேய மறைநூலில் மிகச்சிறந்தவரான மோசே ஒருவர் மட்டுமே கடவுளை நண்பராக உணர்ந்து பேசும் சிறப்புரிமை பெற்றிருந்தார். இந்த உறவுநிலை சராசரி இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களுக்கு எட்டாக்கனியாக தோன்றியது. இருப்பினும் இயேசு தன்னுடைய சீடர்களை “நண்பர்கள்” என்று அழைக்கிறார். உண்மையான நண்பனாக அவர் தம்மிடம் உள்ள சிறந்தவற்றை தம்முடைய சீடர்களுடன் பகிர்ந்து கொள்கிறார். அவர்களுக்காக தன்னுடைய உயிரையே அவர் கொடுக்கிறார். எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் மேலாக அவருடைய தந்தையின் வளமையான இல்லத்திற்குள் நுழைய திறவுகோலையும் கொடுக்கிறார். உழைப்பின்றி மற்றும் தகுதியற்ற கொடையாக திகழும் இந்நட்பு அவருடைய சீடர்கள் “நிலைத்திருக்கும் கனியை தர” அவர்களுக்கு சுதந்திரத்தையும் ஊக்கத்தையும் அளிக்கிறது.
